Hi All
Can some one give me some advice, my female Staffordshire Bull Terrier (SKY) who was 1 year old on Monday, was bitten by a cross male Staffordshire Bull Terrier on Saturday, i am now worried that she might become scared of other dogs, i am also worried about her being any where near other dogs and on the last couple of walks since then, i have kept her out of the way of them.
It was an awful experience the cries were awful and it has really shook me up, if it wasn't for a man that came and broke them up by hitting them on the nose i dread to think what would had happened.
She came off with a wound along the outside of her mouth and a big puncture hole inside her mouth the male came off a lot worse by the looks of the blood.
I feel like i want to keep her away from all dogs :-(
Does this mean that my Staffy will become vicious out of fear as she is so young.
Please can any one help as she has been so friendly with other dogs and now i don't know what to do.
Thanks for your time

Strictly speaking she now needs lots of good experiences with other dogs to counter balance the bad one. Does she have any regular freinds who she can meet up with?
Hopefully some one with experiance with staffies will be along shortly but we had a simalr experiance with our five month old Vizsla ,afterwards she became quite nervy so we spent a lot of time taking her near placid dogs to boost her confidence, but do allow here some time to recover first.:)
My bitch is not nasty and long term the only real difference it has made is she is more respectful/cautious of her elders!!!
I've got 2 staffy bitches, Molly was snapped at by several dogs in her youth, when she was going through that boisterous stage. It never had any effect on her confidence the only effect it had on her behaviour with other dogs was like kate says to make her more respectful of other dogs. She was never quite so in your face after this!
Unfortunately the experience you've had with your staffy sounds more serious. However, they're tough dogs and bounce back pretty well, and hopefully it wont have done too much damage to her mentally.
You could just keep on a lead for a few walks until you're confident that she isn't going to react badly to any dogs off the lead, and then build up to mixing off the lead with dogs she knows well until you are sure that she is fine again.
Hopefully, someone might be able to give you some better advice shortly :)

The worse thing you can do is keep her away from dogs or she will think all dogs are nasty and she will attack first :( You need to get her with as many friendly dogs as possible, take her to some sort of training calsses just so she can see lots of other dogs. Also if you know any nice dogs locally ask the owners if you can meet up with them now and again so sky gets used to as many nice dogs before she starts defending herself!

Hopefully you have taken your dog to the vet in order to prevent an infection from the bite wound.
My dog got very defensive after an attack; i allowed her to interact with friendly dogs and also gave her lots of treats and games as soon as dogs appeared and stopped the treats/games as sooon as they went. Helps the dog to associate dogs with nice things again :)
