i usually try anything and everything for the first few days - whatever she fancies as the pups feed properly she will become more hungry and then she'll eat her normal food or whatever lactating bitch food you are feeding but for the first few days they are sometimes reluctant to eat so tempt her with something nice.

Hi Mandy,
I missed it!! D'Oh.. I had this problem with Noo but she had a temp and needed antibiotics, luckily that done the trick. Noo loves chicken and rice after having pup's and chunks of cheese :) but she ate the strangest thing when she wasn't feeling to good, pasta with stir in sauce (tomatoe & bacon) she went mad for it when my boys were having tea :) She wouldn't normally touch pasta.
If you are worried give the vet a call but I would give her a bit of time to settle down with the pup's and see what she is like tomorrow, if you are still worried then give the vet a call.
Good luck

I gave Tam canned puppy food after she had her pups.  She did really well on it.

Panic over Crystals eating very well today and drinking plenty

Bitches frequently don't eat for the first 24 - 48 hours after giving birth.  If they have eaten well before whelping and consumed the placentas which are high in nutrients I would not worry about it

Crystals was only able to eat the one placenta as she has emergancy c-section due to uterine inertia,
thankfully she and pups are doing great

I had an emergency c-section when I had my son, and didn't feel particularly keen on eating afterwards either! Just make sure she has plenty of fluids, and offer her light, easily digestible foods - milky egg custard-type things, offered several times a day. After about four days you can start getting her back to a normal-type diet, but higher in protein and increasingly large quantities.
:)
