I have a 9 week old puppy who has had his 1st vaccination, along with another dog who is desperate for a walk! I'm worried that if I take the older dog out she will bring some dreaded lurgy home with her. Can anyone advise me on this please?
I remember worrying when Millie wasn't fully vaccinated because there had been a case of parvo reported in my borough and the articles in the newspaper reported that the vet who discovered it (also our vet) stated that you should be aware that it is an airborne virus and can attach itself to shoes/clothes so these should be changed before coming into contact with any unvaccinated puppy.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! So to walk to the corner shop to buy milk, I would have to come in, and avoid the puppy until I had gone upstairs and changed? As paranoid as I was I decided this was just too over-the-top to cope with in normal life, and I would say the same for you, parvo (probably) hasn't been reported in your area, and your older dog needs his walkies so weighing up the pros and cons, it would probably be better for you to be taking your dog out. I also let my sister bring her dog round regularly from Millie being 8 weeks, even though he had been outside on walks as I wanted the canine contact for Millie and figured that to be too beneficial than to 'ban' him, a vaccinated dog from coming into contact with her.
How about ringing your vet for his opinion just to confirm things in your mind? No offence to the people on here, and I hang off every word they say, their advice has been invaluable, but if you're worried then surely its better coming from him.
