Can anyone help please. I have a Westie who is 8yrs old. Just recently I've noticed her hair is getting much thinner. Now, I don't know if this has anything to do with it but we had to have her speyed (?sp) because of a womb infection about 2 yrs ago. Someone recently said I should have been giving her Evening Primrose Oil every day. Is this correct? if so what dosage should I give her, and why didn't the vet advise me at the time. Any advise will be much appreciated.

Hi wendy.
There could be several reasons for her losing her hair.  I would suggest thyroid tests, a FULL PANEL as hair loss/thinning is a common symptom.  There are also other conditions like Cushings disease that can cause this.  Wouldn't worry too much if she is well in other respects but they are things to consider and discuss with your vet.  Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. Yes she is fine otherwise, just the hair thinning. So do you think not to take the Evening Primrose oil?

EPO will not harm her at all, so yes give it a go!  Ask at the health shop what dose they recommend, they vary in mg and the bigger shops usually stock the pet homeopathy books, so getting a correct dose should be easy.  You could also do a google search which may help you too.
