yesturday i had the pleasure of seeing some vizlas work and all i can say is, what a dog!
my boss and i went to wales to see a couple of dogs for work, we left at 6.30 and arrived at the blokes house at approx 1pm, had a chat and went to see the dogs, he was telling us that he used to use labs and springers and unfortunely they havent got the stamina for where he shoots, so he switched to vizlas and his wife uses GWPs, any way we saw the dogs work and you can see why he said labs havent got it these dogs bounced and i mean bounced up the mountian side and to come back down they slid and skided much easier that way obviously :D he showed us what work he had done with the dogs he ahd kept 4 pups out of a litter and they are now 11mths old, and well these dogs were brilliant, we ended up getting one dog with a view to getting the other 2 that he wasnt going to keep, left them with him as we have lack of space at the moment, and drove back home, we eventually got home at 10pm, but what did we talk about on the way home, vizlas they were brilliant, if i get room for another dog it will most certinally be a vizla, i am most definatley converted :D

Hey, you too! :D  Sounds a fantastic day. Why did he decide not to keep the 3 your boss is considering? All that energy, stamina etc with a terrific temperament. Nice to hear of some going to working homes where they'll be kept out of mischief. Long may they remain a connoeisseurs breed.

He decided that the one he was keeping was the best for what he wanted and he doesnt have room to keep all four pups, I have had my head in the clouds all day and everyone is fed up of hear ing the word vizla, i myself cant understand why :D i love my springers and labs, but i am most definitley converted, vizlas work with style, and they have got such a regal look about them, but at the same time they are clowns :D to see a dog bounce up a mountian with a big grin on its face is so funny, and skidding back down just to bunce back up again, theyre brilliant, hopefully when they come back ill be able to work my fave of teh 3 called wilf, its a great name, :)

It's very much horses for courses with working gundogs. I must admit I have a soft spot for vizslas but must admit that one would be unsuitable for the job I need a dog for. One of our gun's has a young puppy but I think he is going to find it totally unsuitable as a peg dog. That is just not their forte.

So many vizsla's tend to be rather standoffish with strangers, a little . . . . not exactly timid. . . . wary would possibly be a better word.

As you have see, they are far more of a running dog than a retriever which makes controllability so much tougher than a Lab. Like all of the hunting dogs, be it HPR's or spaniels, it is important that they don't push on too far in front or flush too quickly. To flush out of range of the guns would not endear it to the guns ;)

Best wishes, John
