Hiya everyone,
Sorry Its a long post - but you need to hear the whole storey...
Poppy our 4 1/2 month old SBT was on the park today and I meet up with my friend and her female SBT Chloe - 9 months old, they normally get on, with a few gentle scraps... but I was playing fetch with poppy and Chloe joined in. They were running after the ball and all of a sudden a massive fight broke out. I ran up to them and managed to grab Poppy by her harness with my left hand and Chloe by the harness with my right. I know you are not meant to get involved but it was a BIG fight, and i couldnt just stand there. Chloes owner ran up and took Chloe away and I held onto poppy - I had picked her up by then, but poppy was still having a go, even though Ch was 4 meters away. poppy was still snarling and barking and I ended up grabbing her jaw to keep her from biting me by accident. A crowd had gathered by then and Poppy was bleeding from loosing 4 of her baby teeth - including 2 of her big molars.
Her mouth is ok now, but I am scared she is dog aggressive, she normally just follows the other dogs when playing fetch, but I have just taught her fetch and she now must be really possesive over the ball...
Ziggy was also there - hes an entire male SBT - 5-6 months - He belongs to same owner as Chloe. he never causes any scraps - and Poppy gets on well with him - but Chloe and Poppy may be in competition for Ziggy - or are they too young for that?
Should I keep her on a lead from now on? she has never had a problem with any other dog - male or female.. but I dont want to risk it....
hi
my young boxer had her first fight last week with another bitch, its not a very nice experience is it? i had the same worries as you i have let her off since and she's been fine with other dogs although we have'nt bumped into the bitch she had the fight with, i put a post on here about it and got some very good advice from the very experienced owners on here and what they did say was once 2 bitches fall out they don't forget and will never get on so bear in mind that poppy and chloe may not be mates anymore! obviously the ball started the fight between them your bitch was being possesive over it and was'nt going to let the other bitch have it fights quite often break out over food etc, i don't think it means she's dog aggressive but i would keep the ball game for when theres no other dogs around to join in
