My Holly started showing what I thought where signs of going into labour on Thursday, she started shivering like mad early evening and it was on and off all night till early hours Friday then stopped, Temperature was 37.5 but has been since Monday, She went out to wee Friday morning and passed some strings of mucus, & a bit again last night, but now all signs seem to have completely vanished! can dogs have a false labour? or can they do this without it being any sign of labour at all? she is a maiden bitch and is actually due today. please could someone offer some advicce as I am going out my mind wondering if this is it or not now? how much longer could she be?
Jo & Holly

she have them hopefully in the next 24 hours, when wispa had this mucus she had hers with in 15 mins.
good luck
terri
me to thought crystal was having them last night, but shes back to normal this morning, pups are moving still but as much,
hopefully soon she is due tomorrow anyway, not that she will have them knowing my luck,
be up now with her for the last 4 days she has been restless and unable to get any sleep
oh well good luck jo,
thinking of you in the same boat
best wishes
mandy
Hi i agree hopefully she should give birth within the next 24hours when mitzy had the mucus discharge she gave birth 48hours later and it was nerve wracking as she showed all the symptoms of first stage labour took her to the vets who did an internal and said she was not ready that same day mity started shivering and panting really heavy would not eat and would only drink.
So just keep a close eye on her until you know she is about to start properly allow her to do what she wants and go where she wants as the walking around helps with the labour.
Also i found that when the contractions started if i rubbed in a circular motion just above her tail this help her with the contractions..
God luck and will be thinking of you .
mike
hi any news yet your end?

hopefully things will happen soon
best of luck.

Thanks Mike, some good advice there, I did ring the vet this afternoon as she started to pass mucus again, The vet wanted to see her to check everything was ok, and it is he says her body is starting to prepare for labour, but it could be a few days even yet! I am relieved nothing is wrong it has put my mind at rest. She has started shivering again about an hour ago, no panting yet and she has just eaten some dinner, looks like another sleepless night pacing the floor for me! lol I have just taken her temp and it has gone down marginally to 37.2 from 37.5 all week. Keep your fingers crossed for her! Good luck to Mandy & Crystal too!
Jo & Holly
Glad everything is going well it wont be long now. I took mitzy for short walks every 30 mins and that seemed to help her progress.
good luck and i will be thinking of you i will be watching the board now for news i feel so excited again and she not my dog lol
Just be prepared she can go from shivering to puppy head being born in seconds lol.
Again good luck.
mike
Just taken crystals temp and its dropped again to 98.4
so fingers crossed this is it this time
mandy
My fingers are crossed for you hope it will be tonight.
I was told by my vet that a bitch will well even if the temp is 99. So lets just hope that she is getting ready to have them.
Hows her shivering and panting going i know i thought mitzy was going to hyperventilate the way she was panting.
Good luck and my thoughts are with you.

Another sleepless night & no puppies! This must be the longest labour in history! Holly shivered all night & started puffing a little at one stage, she was very restless and kept biting and licking at her belly. She is still shivering off and on now and is passing lots more mucus every time she goes out to the toilet, it is clear though. Her temperature is back up to 37.6 and her & I are totally exhausted through lack of sleep!. Apart from having the odd shiver this morning she has gone back to normal. Is it still possible she will have them during the day? or do you think it's over until tonight again now? I am dying to catch a few z z z z's She doesn't seem to have symptoms during the day!, they have only really been coming on strong in the evening.
How is Crystal doing any news yet Mandy? Good luck Girls!
Jo & Holly
Hi i am sorry to hear you and molly have had another sleepless night.
I really know how you feel.
They say that no 2 bitches are the same as some have no temp drop some have a slight drop.
I was told by my vet that the temp drop does not always mean that she is in pre labour Mitzys temp was 99.7 thats 37.8.
It was the internal that the vet gave her and me taking her for short walks that helped her start properly that and i think the car ride lol.
When we got back home by midday her shivering became really bad as it looked like she was having fits me being me panicked and rang the vet and they said its normal and can come and go but will be constant when birth is imminent and it was 19hours later when she had her first.
She was off her food for 32hours.
But all that can be done is keep an eye on her and hope she starts soon i used to fall asleep next to mitzy that way if she started i would hear her so thats a suggestion if you need sleep as you will need your witts about you when she starts giving birth.
How far on is she?
Good luck and still have my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks Mike, it helps to know someone else has been in the same boat and come through it fine. She is 64 days today and is now fast asleep and snoring! lol That takes the biscuit! No more shivering or anything else. I think after luch if no progress I may try taking her for a few short walks, although she barely stays outside to go to the toilet at the moment, before running back into bed! I will keep you informed.
Jo & holly
Any news on Crystal yet Mandy?
Thats a good sign her running back to her bed after being for a walk.
Is that 64days from mating as when i thought mitzy was 66days vet told me she may not have concieved till about 3-4days after mating.
Thats what got me when mitzy would shiver then next time you look she would be sound asleep snoring the day she started shivering come about 10pm she was playing and running around and i thought you little bugger you just making me suffer now lol.
I will be keeping eye on the board hope you get some good news soon.
Come on holly you can do it :)
mike
Crystal had me up again last night, pacing, pulling newspaper, walking about, lying down, walking about all night,
she is very restless, just taken her temp and she has had a drop down to 97.5/36.4 so hopefully, today she will have them
as i type shes pulling newspaper, now shes layed down for all of 2 seconds again
good luck and hopefully it will be over soon
best wishes

Good luck Mandy.
I was in a simialr situation back in Feb and am only know starting to catch up on my sleep. Don't envy any of you :)
How is things going hope all is going well. Now i know how you all felt waiting for news about mitzy lol
during contractions rubbing in a circular motion at the base of her back helps also if you rub the abdomen down towards the vulva this also helps the puppies move down and helps the bitch deal with her contractions well helped with mitzy she did not cry once which i was expecting her to scream lol
good luck and i have all my fingers and toes crossed
mike

Hi All
Still nothing! I took Holly for a walk along the river bank yesterday afternoon to see if that might help things along but, although she loved it, not a thing has hapened! She started shivering again last night, as she has done every evening since Thursday, her temperature was up last night to 38.5 it's been 37.5 nearly all week. Apart from that she went to bed and has slept all night, but at least I did too ! I set the alarm every few hours to check her but it was lovely to have a nights sleep for once! The vet didn't think she would go till today so not quite sure whether to ring him again today? She seems absolutely fine in herself, a bit restless but the pups are still moving allover her tummy. Just more waiting for us all I suppose! lol
Jo & Holly
Hi sorry to hear still nothing. The pups still moving around alot is a good sign that all is still well.
If your at all worried i am sure the vet wont mind checking her over again.
I was told by my vet a pup thats coming bum first can hold up the labour and bitches can volunarily delay whelping if the pain is too much for her to bare.
Good luck and thinking of you and holly
mike
HELP
what do i do??
crystal gave birth to one puppy alittle while ago and isnt trying to have anymore,no straining or anything
i can still feel movement on her tummy,
one book i have says it can take 36hours for all pups to be born and another says if a puppy is born and a gap more than 2 hrs approaches call the vet
so what do i do??
mandy
Hi congrats on the first pup. How long ago was it she had the first.
Aslong as she is cleaning the pup and removing the sac all will be well i was told if she started straining and pushing for more than 1hour without producing another pup to call the vet.
Mitzy went 3hours between her 4th and 5th pup so it really depends on the bitch.
You know her and you will notice when something is wrong if your at all worried give your vet a quick ring and they will advice you on what to do.
Again congrats.
mike
just called vet we have to take her straight away
fingers crossed please
im so scared for her and her babies
mandy
My thoughts are with you and good luck everything will be fine.
Mike
Crystal is at the vets as i type,
vet is trying the hormone injection which they dont think will work as to many pups,so ive signed for her to have a c-section,basically vet said she to to tired to push anymore
the pup born here is a little girl brown/white and lovely she is to:)
please keep your fingers crossed she will be ok
mandy
Hi Thumper,,, I wish you all the best luck with your puppies..

Well Done Crystal & Mandy! At long last! Now just waiting on Holly to follow suit! I have been reading book of the bitch & Mike is right she can take upto 3 hours between whelps before you need to be concerned unless there is anything obviously wrong. If you are worried though ask your vet you know your own Dog. Congratulations on Pup number 1 !
Jo & Holly
Hello all,
well i have called the vet, and crystal didnt respond to the hormone injection,
so she has gone to theatre for a c-seation,so now im really really scared its so horrible without her here,i have done nothing but cry,i just want my baby home, also they done a scan and they said there is at least 1 other pup thats alive,so fingers crossed all will be ok with her,i have to call them again at 6 to see if she is able to come home today, all depends on if pups are suckling and shes ok,also she is being spayed to stop this happening again and for my own pease of mind.

My son hasn't been well all day so havn't been able to get on line till now, I have been holding my breath reading about Crystal today, I am just glad she is OK now, I hope she comes home to you tonight along with her babies! Give her a BIG HUG from me and Holly. Holly has been normal all day, the odd shiver, her temp has gone back up to 37.8 this evening like yesterday evening but has been 37.5 all day, she is still eating little bits and a bit restless, I give up! I am getting really anxious for her, but I keep telling myself as long as she isn't in distress, eating and the puppies are still active, I don't need to panic or ring the vet yet, do you think this is ok or should I be concerned?
Jo & Holly
Hi all
Crystals home 4 pups are so sweet,2 boys and 2 girls 3 are brown/white other is black/white,
shes sleeping pups are all suckling well and shes being a great first and last time mum,
have to take her back in 10 days for her to have her stiches out,
the pup which didnt make it they say was because labour started and stopped.
good luck jo hope you have pups soon
mandy
HIya i am sorry about the loss of a puppy mitzy would have had 6 apart from one had died.
Glad Crystal is doing so well and her and pups are fine.
I dont blame you about this being first and last time i am the same with mitzy i dont want her having anymore i dont think me nor her could cope with the stress of what happened this time.
Good luck to you crystal and the pups give mum a huge hug and kiss from me.

Morning all
Holly had another rough night she sivered off & on all night, they did seem more intense than previous evening so I thouht last night may have been it, but no she is back to normal this morning no shivers & is full of life ! Can anyone explain why she is doing this every evening but then just stops! i may ring the vet later today just to put my mind at rest that she is still ok as this is driving me mad! lol
Jo & Holly
HIya how many days is she again, I dont understand her shivering on and off as its gone on for nearly a week i would give the vet a call just to make sure she is fine.
Like i say bitches can voluntarily hold up whelping if the pain is too much or if she is anxious.
Got my fingers crossed all is well and she whelps soon.
mike
Hi jo dont mean to worry you but with that happening to crystal over 2/3 days,
then after having the one puppy and being unable to have the others natural due to uterine inertia and the hormone injection not working ,she had the section and spay and we lost the one pup,i would go to vets as there could be some problem how many days is she now?
mandy
Hi jo hows things with holly hope everything is ok

Hi All , I have been talking to my stud dog's owner today, she had Holly's first 63 due date as sunday & because we had a second mating 2 days later she could even be 63 days today from 2nd mating! I used a table on the net which included the day she was mated on as day 1 which was 1st Feb and we thought she was due on saturday the 3rd April from 1st mating. Now I am totally confused as to when they should be due, it is some time around now, I am more worried about this constant shivering every evening but I think Holly is just anxious, she has had no more mucus for the last 2 days either now. She has been running about all day in the garden so I don't think there is alot wrong with her, she is just messing me about!
Jo
