hi,
i have the major problem of how to take my 15 month dobe bitch for her annual vacc.
problem. . . . . well because i still havent got her to stop barking at other people and other dog's yet.
When walking i have a halti on and take treats for when i can get her to pass people without a growl.
But the thought of going to the vets and sitting in a strange place with dogs and strange people around
is daunting.

She only likes me and my 3 kids.Everyone else gets the growls and hair standing up.
She did get out my garden the other day and ran towards a poor man walking by, but all she did was stand and bark. When i shouted on her she came back in the garden, and started having a carry on.I ignored her and put her in house.Didnt want her to think that it was acceptible to run and bark at people.

Have got a muzzle but dont know if she'll stand still for vacc.

Help

make an appointment when it is quiet at the vets perhaps early morning or late night - pull up outside take dog in get vet to jab it and leave - all vets are used to dogs being funny with them so don't worry as long as you have a muzzle the vet will do the rest - but please don't ask for the kennel cough drops up the nose as that is a nightmare in an aggressive dog!!!!! you do not have to make your dog be perfect just to ge to the vets once a year for its jab!!!! no - one else does believe me i'm a vet nurse and we see 90 dogs a day and your gaurenteed one of them will have a go at you. Its accepted by vets and nurses that dogs behave badly at the vets thats just the way it is. the other thing you could get is some acp tablets from your vet to sedate the dog before getting there this might help also- and sometimes someone else taking the dog to the vets is good as the dog is not feeling protective towards that person(and also the can have the embarressment of the dog behaving badly ha ha!!!)

My Tam crys when she is in the vets so I have an arrangement with my vet that when we have an appointment I leave her in the car with my friend, I go in and tell them that we are there and we wait till the vet come's and gets us therefore avoiding long waits with other peolpe and their pets and not getting my Tam stressed out.  The one vet we see also lets me use the back door when we leave if she is particularly on edge.  She will sit in the vets if she really has to, if I haven't been able to get anyone to come with me but she let's everyone know she's there.  It can be quite embarassing sometimes but that's life.

Could you, maybe, suggest something like this to your vet?

Thanks for positive replies

Think i'll give vets a call and explain , and see what they can recommend.
It was always arranged that my husband was going to take her as she would listen to his voice, but the circumstances have changed drastically now as my husband got aggressive towards me,, dog got aggressive towards him and we have split up. This didnt help poor pup, she just even more protective towards me now.
