Hopefully someone with a bit more experence could off er some advice, our 9yr foster lab has just had another mast cell tumor diagnosed, the third in 7 months, the first two were removed sept last year whilst in rescue kennels before we took her on, this third lump was noticed after only a week or so after we had her, (nov 03),but the vet decided to keep a eye on it as it wasn't causing any probs so the breed rescue now have to decide wheather to remove this lump,or to let her have  any painkillers, she needs until it wasn't being effective,But on the bright side she is now back to her energetic self after her little sett back last week, So i was wondering if any of you out there could suggest any hoemopathic remedies to help her remaining time as pleasant as poss.

Sadly lost my lab to this last year, But she had the worst grade of it, it comes in three grades occording to out oncologist, a very high dosage of predislone (spelling is probably wrong) can really reduce the mass of the tumor and help the dog especially if the grade of the cancer is not the highest.  They have had great results with this in the USA and there they give a much higher dosage than they do here.  That saying the preds bring their own set of problems but the oncologist told us they can safely stay on them quite a while before any problems start, then when it is time to come off they have to be eased off slowly dropping one tablet a time.  Although it was too late for our dog (our vet misdiagnosed, it was only after a long long time that I instited on a referral and found the 'pressure point' he had diagnosed and had been asked constantyl about for over 6 years was in fact cancer!!!!!!!1  Needless to say he is no longer our vet!), when she took the preds the lumps did go right down very quickly and if she had been diagnosed earlier probably could have saved her.  Good luck.

Hi,

I currently have a golden being treated at Cambridge Univirsity Vetinary Hospital for
a grade 2 Mast Cell Tumour. She has had 4 lots of radiation on her lower leg which
the specialist says has a 90% chance of a cure from this particular tumour.
Given previously less than 9 months to live.
The oncology unit is the best in Europe they also have the  best orthopaedic specialists
in Hip Dysplasia and other bone and joint problems .
I wish you all the best,

Briony:-)
