Hello champdogs,
Im desperatly searching for a Liver coloured Flatcoat Male puppy, WITH A MINIUMUM CANCER RISK!
does anyone know the % of flats that die from cancer? and whats the average age?

Are there any breeders in the south east, that can give health guarentees with their pups??
and that have not have any or little cancer in their lines??

Also I dont give my dogs boosters after the age of 6 months, i get them titre tested to see if they need it! would this reduce the risk of cancer??

Any help would be much appreciated
Kate

I don't think it's possible for anyone to give health guarantees on any livestock. Just as nobody can guarantee that a child will never suffer from any illness.

I think im right in saying that cancer is not only hereditary but acquired.
Therefore it would be impossible to quarantee against cancer even if it was not apparent in any of previous dogs.

It is interesting to see you do titre tests before vaccinations. However with flatcoats as with any other stock or even humans you can never give a health certificate which says your not going to get cancer in one form or another. There is about a 50% chance of any dog you get of having cancer. The colour has no direct on connection to cancer.
Why not join the breeders at the breed championship show on Sunday at Ryton-on-Dunsmore and talk to us about our dogs. We are very forthright about the health and conditions our breed suffers from. The show is on all day starting at 9am, judging.
The Conexion is a large pair of buildings just off the roundabout from the A423 south of Coventry.
I do know where there is a litter due which will probably have some liver coloured pups. Have you had a flatcoat before? If not it might be a good idea to meet several before you actually get one, as they can be boisterous.

HI
I HAVE LIVER AND BLACK FCR AND I LIVE IN THE SOUTH EAST TOO,

50%  LIKE WHAT POLLY POSTED INHER EMAIL.
THE AVAGE AGE IS 8 1/2 YERASOLD,BUT SOME LIVE LONG AND SOME HAVE SHORT LIFES,JUST LIKE HUMANS,
YOU CANNOT GIVE A HEALTH GUARENTEE ON  HEALTH OF THE PUPPIES,YOU CAN ONLY TEST THE DAM /SIRE FOR THE TESTS,OF EYES AND HIP WHICH OUR BREED STATES TO HAVE DONE,BUT NO GUARENTEES ON CANCER. THE PUPPIES CAN BE TESTED A YEAR OLD FOR EYES AND HIPS.IT ALL DOWN TO GENTICES OF THE DAM/SIRE,PLUS SOMETIME ENVIOMENT TO,

US BREEDERS TRY TO DO OUR BEST WHEN HAVING A LITTER OF PUPPIES TO MAKE SHORE THAT THEY ARE HEALTH,BUT LIKE MY LITTER IN 2002 ALL 9 LIVER PUPPIES GOT KENNEL COUGH AT 1O DAYS OLD BYE 4 WEEKS WE HAD TO PUT TO SLEEP 6 OF THEM BEACUSE OF THE SECONDARLY INFECTION.PLUS I COULD NOT SELL ON UNHEALTH PUPPIES TO THE OWNER TO GO WHAT I DID THEN,

WHY ARE YOU GIVEN BOOSTER AFTER 6 MONTHS THE INJECTION PROGAM IS 8 AND THEN 10 WEEKS OLD THEN EVERY YEAR IF YOU WANT,BUT I DO EVERY 18 MONTHS UP  TO 7 YEARS,THERES ALOT OF CHAT ABOUT THIS ON THE FCR YARHOO SITE IT MAY BE WISE FOR YOU TO ENJOY  AND READ WHAT OTHER FCR ARE DOING ABOUT THIS TOPIC,

JO WITHFCR KNOW ABOUT TITRE TESTING SO SHE MAY COME HERE LATER,
YOU CAN SEE MY ALOT ON THIS SITE UNDER GLENTURRET FCR.
