Just want to do a quick freshen up before the house goes on the market and thinking about painting the kitchen walls -so looking for ideas and inspiration :D

Wall units are white with a dark grey worktop and white ( I know... ) ceramic tiles on floor and appliances are all chrome.
Its not a huge kitchen but not tiny either but Id like it to be nice and fresh and airy ( bearing in mind I share the house with O/H, two boys, a dog and a cat! and dont want to be endlessly cleaning it up)
:)

what colours does everyone else have ?

Hiya
Don't you like the idea of white? I just think it not only looks clean and fresh, it opens up the space, increases light relection and is also both trendy and accepted by all cross sections of prospective purchasers. You can get that new, extra tough cleaning paint that's on the Tv adverts at the moment. :)
I'm honestly not wanting to sound boring, but I tried to put myself in your kitchen...and reading the discription, that's what colour I would paint it if I was moving in.
Also, prospective purchasers won't see it as any trouble to paint over in whatever their chosen colour may be?
Anyway, that's JMHO....some more interesting ideas will no doubt come along ;)
Happy painting :D

I love white but its just not very friendly with two boys and a dog ( dirty handprints, splashes etc)

I would have everywhere white if I lived on my own :)

I can say don't go for Teracotta and lemon- that hasn't got a nice bright airy fresh look either :-(  What about a very pale steel blue- my Sisters got that with white units and chrome finishings, silver washer etc- and that looks really clean etc :-)

'Silk emulsion' wipes- two GSD's and two kids have proved ;-)  My passage/utility/dog room is painted magnolia with silk emulsion.

We have daffodil white, nice bright and yellowy!  2 kids and 3 dogs haven't been a problem, as Dulux Kitchen and Bathroom psint wipes clean.  Can't beat yellow to brighten a room! :)

Mines yellow too, Souffle, a bit eggy :).  Your might want to consider the colour of adjoining rooms, my sitting room is white and terracotta and the door is always open between them so it was important that they toned.  What about trying out some colours here [link]http://www.dulux.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/DLXUK/MousePainter/Jsp/Mouse_Painter.jsp?contentPage=null&id=1&root=P[/link] or your can request help from their advise department.  My house came with an avocado bathroom suite, which I could not afford to change, the floral green and muddy pink paper prevented me seeing the woods from the trees so I email their advise department for help with a colour that would pull it out of the seventies, they suggested hessian (slightly darker magnolia to you and me) I love my bathroom now it really looks modern and with wooden blinds and some japaneezy twigs it feels just like being in one of there paper houses, the green suite even looks right :)

I have Hessien nearly everywhere, it is definately not Magolia, an unusual colour to describe but fits in well with modern surroundings.

For your kitchen, I would go for a steel blue or silver grey, will look nice with the appliances and worktop.

Sandra (who only has the kitchen to go in her house now, just need to afford a new kitchen first) :)

Homebase do a range of paint that is matt finish with added acrylic, which i have found to be really good.  The range has loads of colours.  If I was in your postion I would put white on the walls and add pictures etc for splashes of colour.

Michelle :)  (who has so mant tester pot colours on her kitchen walls she doesnt know what to have ;) )

My kitchen has dark grey worktops and light grey doors, not my choice, it was "inherited" when I bought this place.  I tried blue with the units, it didn't work and then lilac as the dark grey had a slisght lilac fleck through it.  Still no good.   So I tried "Chinese Jade" (I think thats the name) and it looks good.  But that was 5 years ago and it may be different/dicountinued/not even called that!   Ooppsss...........

We've got a pale-ish aqua with silver/light wood units and chrome appliances - it's lovely and 'fresh'.

Allegedly you shouldn't use yellow in kitchens, as it attracts flies ... or is this an urban myth??

I think from a selling point of view you have to do what all of those 'on the tele designers' do,paint it white or magnolia, create an illusion of space and cleanliness.( I'm not saying all of your kitchens aren't spotless :D )
It shouldn't be what's practical or what you could live with or even like,it's what the buyer will see,'first impressions' and all that :D kitchens and bathrooms sell houses.

Personally if I went to view a house though I would be looking at how they had 'dressed it' to make me buy it and then look beyond all that at how much cleaning, repairing and extra work it might entail if I bought it!

Another annoying thing about the t.v. designers too,is that no-one should contemplate even owning a dog or cat  if they are selling a house. Not sure why I even watch them? and as for changing rooms NO WAY would I let them in my home!!

Jacqueline :)

eau de nil, or pale aqua to us....lovely with chrome and so relaxing and fresh...

Blue attracts mosquitos apparently - like water I suppose :)
- By luvly [gb] Date 02.04.04 11:16 UTC
i think as long as what you have is matching  thought out and not too brash  it can look very good ,you have to rember that every house has a style and its best to go with it .. cottage .. villa . town house . my house is old come new everyone loves it thats why i get bugged all the time :P wood floors leather sofas yet in italian style quite ornate wood carving splash of gold and red looks brill .
i think tv progs make the houses look cheap and tacky! except carol vods one.

Our worktops are nearly black marble -flooring is grey - cupboards very pale wood (pear), - walls are orange (yes - I know - wasn't supposed to be orange, but that's what it turned out like :D ) and it looks great :D - opposite contrasting wall is a sort of magnolia. It makes the room really warm and bright :)

Daisy

Did consider the steel blue idea but as we have a lot of chrome too - it looked a bit cold and uninviting (the walls looked like a rainbow trying out all the different colours)
