Any of you clever lot out there know if there is any KC ruling on there only being 1 item allowed on the Agenda for a SGM.
Surely if the correct numbers of members request a SGM, and on that request is detailed the items to be discussed, then all of those items should be discussed.

The rules for a SGM are usually laid down in the relevent Club Rules. It depends what they say, I would think. You can usually only discuss whatever is on the Agenda for that meeting.

Sorry not sure, have you looked in the year book. Think it may depended on how the club rules are set up in the first place, in your rules and regs there will be a section laying out the procedure for calling and running a SGM. Are you having a KC adjudicator/chairman if so a phone call to them should sort it out for you. It could be that you can have one main wide-ranging item with sub items as long as they are connected to the main item.

the rules for a special general meeting will be those devised by the individual club. The Rules for the KC SGM A3.8 28, do not specify number of agenda items if that is any help.
You are all confirming what I thought.
The clubs rules do not specifiy a number of items either, so think it is the club trying to be clever and wriggle out of a problem.

In which case phone the KC who should look you your clubs rules and tell you how to proceed.
Thats what we intend to do tomorrow Jackie.
Thanks
I'm afraid people who get into power onto Club Committees and then think they are a law unto themselves really get my goat. I am Asst. Secretary to Canine Society but never forget that I am working for the members not myself. :-)

Yep, me too and any one who thinks the appointment brings anything but work are in for a shock ;) If you don't agree to do it for the sake of the society or club you are no fulfilling your appointment.

Only items that are itemised on the Agenda of the SGM can be discussed

Think the question is Mel, what items can be placed on the agenda.

It is usual in the case of SGM's or EGM's to only discuss the item or items for which the meeting was called. There would be no "ANY OTHER BUSINESS". I was present at the Golden EGM a few years ago having been approached to steward the door and I also chaired an EGM at my own club last year. Obviously there are no minutes to be read before the meeting proper starts, (The last AGM minutes are NOT read) It is often the case to have an independent chairman for the meeting. An agenda should be sent to all members so they have no doubt what they are there to discuss and in order to avoid problems later you really need to know that those present are paid up members. Otherwise you will have trouble with arguments about the validity of any vote. We had a printout of all paid up members of the GRC and checked them in at the door. Make sure that the secretary is up to keeping the minutes. Remember, there could be plenty of arguments afterwards so make sure the minutes taken are bomb proof.
Hope that helps, John

You are right John and as well as minutes a tape recordor is a good idea but don't forget to tell the members about it, they soon forget but if the minutes taker makes a mistake or misses something a double check can be made.
