can any one advise me ? ,my bitch was mated on day 11 she stood very willingly for the dog with a 20 min tie , the next day she was totally out of season the vulva was almost back to normal we visited the stud dog 48hrs later and no mating took place any one else had this , is it a good sign ?

I have never known a dog to come out of heat on day 12 as she will have just started to ovulate well thats if she is not an early ovulater.
How old is she.
What breed
If she has concieved then 30days after mating a vet maybe able to palpatate her abdomen or do and ultrasound scan which will tell you if she is indeed pregnant.

she is nearly 4 and has had one litter and is a ckcs, her season was normal and starting tail flicking on day 9 , she was mated on days 11 and 13 last time and had 4 pups ... the stud dog owner said the vulva was tight when we tried for a second mating I remember last time she shut off season very soon after mating , some breeder friends of mine say it's a good sign I'm not convinced

I have heard some dogs will come out of heat 2-3days after mating some will carry on there cycle so you never know she maybe expecting.
If your at all worried contact your vet who will be only to happy to check her out.
If i can remember rightly there was a message on here before about drying up after mating and that was after 2matings so i would say yes its possible to happen.

I don't think you can write a book, all bitches are different and can vary with each season too. I have had bitches that ovulate on day 7 & 9 and another day 16 & 18, I've also known some that bleed all the way through. It's just a waiting game now, an experienced vet/breeder can usually feel the 'string of pearls' at 21days.

thanks for the reply , she was still a little sexy on day 13 when she should have had the second mating but nowhere near as the first ...the poor boy didn't stand a chance , the stud dog owner was very good but said she had gone down so much she felt the deed may have been done .. and didn't want to stress my girl.we will just have to wait and see !!

My bitches nearly always close down after a mating if they have taken the first time. if I go back 48 hours later they don't usually want to know.

I mated my bitch day 11 and 13. Day 11 she stood willingly, day 13 a bit apprehensive. After the first mating she went 'off' and her season dried up almost completely. She had her litter of 9 pups, and by scan dates took on the first mating. So i would agree this is a good sign, fingers crossed for you.

thanks dogmad.... I think because it's the norm to have 2 matings I was a little worried things were not ok ...she was mated on Saturday and today it looks like she was never in season , totally gone off I will have her scanned in a few weeks and will let you know . what is your breed ?

I HAVE 2 FLAT COATED RETRIEVER GIRLS, MUM & DAUGHTER, BOTH AN ABSOULUTE DELIGHT AND MY VERY BEST FRIENDS. REALLY HOPE THE SCAN IS GOOD NEWS.

I too have a CKCS We mated her on day 10 and 12 we were offered another go on day 14  but she wasn't having any of it.Stud dog owner told me that a lot of CKCS bitches he has to  stud  do the same and  a few will only take the dog once  and then shut down after that mating.

The day after my bitch was mated (day 12 of season) she closed up.

Sorry inca, bit late I know but result was a litter of two exactly 62 days after mating.

scan today showed at least 4 pups .... she was mated the once 28 days ago and the vet says they are 28 days in size ..just wanted to share that with you :)

my lab was mated on days 12+15,when i took her,her discharge was pink and waterey on both occasions,today is the 11th day after her 1st mating and for 4-6 days now shes had a brown discharge it doent smell or anything and shes fine in herself does any one know wot this is?Julia

My bitch was mated on day 12 early in the morning and day 13 late at night, so 36 hours between matings.   When we took her back 48 hrs later she would stand but he wasn't able to manage the deed.  I think she had gone past her sell by date!  Her season finished very quickly, within a few days.  She is now 14 days past mating and although she doesn't have an actual discharge of note, she does lick herself and the hair around her vulva is stained a little.  I don't think this is cause for concern.

my girls swelling is going down she also has staining,and cleaning herself loads, do u think that she might be  in welp?Julia
