Hi
Holly is now 13 wks and is still leaking during the day and her crate is wet every night even though we leave paper down. She had been on 1/4 synulox antibiotics twice a day for 7day as she had an infection and on day 5 of the antibiotics she had to have a sample taken and sent to lab and white blood cells were still seen so the abs were increased to 1/2 tablet twica a day.The the vets now thinks it is ectopic ureter. We got her when she was 7wks and she was dry in her crate for upto 3hrs between 9 and 11wks which from reading on the internet about this condition would not have been the case but vets know best!.It has to be diagnosed properly which means a £400-£600 bill and then treatment cost on top.My insurance will not cover this as it is congenital so a warning there for others(not even to diagnose it) though we dont care how much it costs as we want her to get better and if anyone has had their puppy or dog treated for this was it successful and if not what did you do.As you can imagine we can only let her stay in the kitchen at the moment as she leaves a trail wherever she goes so she is whining because she cant be with me.Any advice or suggestions would be welcome as she is my first pup and i hate seeing her like this.

Sorry to hear about your puppy, is this the insurance company that you get free for 6 weeks when you register your pup? Was going to suggest that the breeders may help with the payment but have not read all the thread so that may have been covered.
Edit:
Had another look and you do not mention the breeder, think you should have a word with them they will want to know anyway and may offer to help with the cost or offer some sort of suport.

Sorry just got back from vets and feeling a bit upset so didn,t put everything in the insurance is through the kennel club and i pay for it now as the free cover ran out on 27th march.I have tried to contact the breeder but she is away for 2 weeks and her husband said will get her to contact me asap.He does not deal with the breeding but has said she will give a refund of some of the cost of purchase or she may take her back and they will contact the other people to let them know.I wont be giving her back as she is part of the family now and im just hoping that surgery will help but im annoyed that even the diagnosis cost is not covered i could understand that they wouldn't pay for treatment if this is found to be the cause because it is congenital but im not going to know if it is congenital until it is done ahh catch 22 i think!

Perhaps if you have the diagnosis done and it turns out not to be congenital they may be they will pay. At the moment they are relying on the word of your vet who does not know at the moment what is causing the problem. So fingers crossed for you and the little lass.

The article above discusses congenital incontinence, surgery is not always successful. Beside the expense and trauma of the surgery on the puppy, you need to keep in mind that if this condition cannot be corrected it will be a miserable life for your puppy. Not only will she need to be restricted because of the urine linkage, but she will most likely develop sores and possibly infections from urine scalding.
I know you've become attached to the puppy, but if I were in your place if the breeder offered to take the puppy back I would do so. It would be less heartache then if you become even more attached to her and find yourself in the position of needing to PTS.
