Please help me... The nursery school that my 3 year old son Regan attends sent a letter home today, and guess what was in it. Easter hat competion on Friday ARGGHHHHHHHHHH.. My older son had the same 2 years ago and he came 2nd but I want to do something that is really different. I am sooo stuck if you have any ideas please share them :D
If anyone wants to make it as well, feel free ;)

Thanks guys

Kelly,

Buy a hat.  Wrap bandages around it.  Pour on tomato ketchup and hey presto.  He's an accident looking for somewhere to happen!

Now don't all shout - read your bible and remember the true meaning of easter.

god bless you

LOL!! The only trouble with that is all the other children might want to lick it :D :D

I am utterly rubbish at stuff like this - I have not one creative bone in my body! Last year I had to decorate a hat and Mollie helped me. I tried to make a nest in the top but the twigs fell out and the lickle eggs fell through the gaps. I threw it out of the window in a rage :D Mollie thought it was hilarious. We didn't win.

Buy a cheap sturdy hat maybe from a charity shop? Invest in a hot glue gun B&Q sell them quite cheaply and it will come in handy for other jobs. Then decorate it with items you want. A nest with egg shells decorated with the joy of easter. (You could use proper eggs with the insides removed.) Then maybe a mother bird feeding 2 chicks with shells broken in half mimiking newborns. The hot glue gun will secure everything inplace and only takes about 2 mins to set. Its loads better than super glue and much stronger. (i think the glue dries clear)

If you know anyone who works in a hospital you could get them to get one of those paper mashe sick bowls or bed pan covers . Think of the fun your wee one could have painting it. Then you could help him to decorate it with some easter decorations & eggs

Buy a very cheap straw hat- dint the top inwards- paper mache a balloon (Sp? :-) ) to be made into a chicken- use strips of tissue paper- various reds and browns glued on everywhere- an orange cone shape for the beak etc and a button for the eyes- glue straw round the bottom and hey presto you've got a hen sat on a nest! You're three year old can stick the strips etc on himself once you've made the initial base, it doesn't have to be perfect- the fact that it's not is half the joy of it- it's something a child has made and even if he doesn't win you'll have had a great time together guiding, cutting and glueing:-)

Ahh this thread prompted some good memories for me :)
I once won an easter bonnet parade thanks to my step mom :)
This is how we did it!
A straw hat... on the top stick some egg shells and some of those plastic chicks amongst some hay (we used real hay but you could make something similar)
Around the rim sew on some daffodils (real)
I used this idea for my daughter when she was in infant school (she just imformed me she also won!)

This one worked for me when I was at school (I won an easter egg) lol .  I had my mum use a cake stand (the thick cardboard type covered in silver foil and then covered it with white card for icing and then stuck fluffy chicks mini eggs etc on it , band around the base of the cake stand to hold it in place with ribbons to tie under the chin.  Childhood memories aaaaawwwww.

Thanks for your help guys. Well as he was also having an Easter Egg Hunt we used that in our design!! We made a crown shaped hat but eggs around the top, filled the inside top with shredded green tisue paper (grass) made a few trees and hid mini eggs inside!! We also used glitter and chicks to decorate the outside!!
Regan came 2nd :D He won a Fimbles Easter Egg so he was chuffed.

Thanks Again
Kelly
