Can anyone give me information on puppy socialisation classes, my Westie is 10 months and think he needs to socialise with other dogs more.
Also, what is the best age for one dog to be before you think about getting another?

Most puppy socialisation classes tend to have a cut of age of about 5 months or younger. Is your dog frightened of other dogs or do you just want him to have some freinds?  And question 2 at least 2.

Would our dog have to go in a class with older dogs in that case? We wanted to take him to classes because he is frightened of other dogs.

If he is frightened of other dogs then classes would not necessarily be in his best interests.  You need to be very careful how you go about socialising him if he has missed out on early positive experiences with other dogs.  He needs to meet quiet and laid back dogs who won't worry or react if he gets a bit woofy and then gradually build his confidence but it will take a while and you are unlikely to be able to turn him into a really confident dog as some things can only be learned in puppyhood.

We too have people sit with their dog/s to see if a class would be appropriate for them. Look around for classes and ask the head trainer if you can do this. They should really allow you to and also in an established class that is quieter than a new baby class.:)  Where abouts are you?

Try asking your vet for advice....they may know of appropriate people to help you. I belong to a kc good citizen class. frequently we have rescue dogs with fear problems who come not to participate, but to sit quietly and watch, without being approached by other dogs. This seems to work very well and is non threatening. Gradually I have seen them be more relaxed in the company of other dogs. If you can find such a class with well behaved dogs, where you can sit on the  sidelines and not have to get direct contact, then that may be a useful start.
