Topic Dog Boards / Health / Are matches poisonous?
- By Camerons [gb] Date 30.03.04 07:44 UTC
Just come home from being out of the house for 15 mins to find Alfie being sick.  Then I spot a chewed up box of matches.  I don't think he's actually swallowed many matches, if atall, maybe just chewed them, but I'm sure I read once that the sulpur of whatever it is on them is poisonous to dogs.  Does anyone know anything about this?  I called the vet and a nurse told me she'd never heard of it and to just keep an eye on him but I don't really have too much faith in the nurses there.  His sick was bright yellow liquid so maybe he's got rid of it all.  Thanks.

I've read that sulphur is poisonous to dogs (but that safety matches aren't) and that vomiting should be induced so it's good that he's managed to vomit them. If I find out anything else I'll let you know. Hope he's OK :)
