Hi
I have 2 Cavalier King Charles (dogs) and was considering having them castraited. I have spoken to my vet to ask advise. They keep mounting each other, and are tending to get more boystrous against other dogs when out for walks. My vet has suggested they have a hormone injection to 'calm' them down, and it may stop them from mounting each other.
I would appreciate advise on this........thanks

Hormone injection might work, at the same time castration may/may not work!
I have found that castrated dogs will hump more. Humping is more to do with domination more then anything to do with hormons. this will always explain why they are being boystrous. It might be worth trying the hormone injection, tho I can't talk from experience as I have never had it done.

Humping is a popular and normal dog pastime, and in my experiance one that the Cavalier is particulaly fond. Castration may sort it but I would not think so, the worse humper in my lot is a bitch.
Humping seems to be the favourite pastime of all male cavaliers. I know a girl living in OZ who's cavaliers hump on the back sill of the car as she's driving along for all to see
My mum has 2 springers and one of them is an obsessional humper, she's had the hormone injection for him and it worked a treat.
We too used to have a Cavalier who humped for a living, sofas, the other dog, anyone who was near him, he wasn't castrated and we never did anything about it though because our bitch had been spayed and would let him know when she had had enough of his behaviour.
