Hello
my 6mth old staffie has a curly tail, I was hoping it would grow out.  it is a lot straighter when he is running but it normally held with 180 curl to the front. will this grow out to a nice staffie pump handle?
Cheers Si.

Sorry the tail will not straighten out. Is the dog a full ped UK Staff? The only reason I ask is because the only other dog I have seen with a very similar tail was a cross bred Stafford.

i would imagine it is there for life .she will still make a great pet, but will not make a show dog if that was your intention.i have seen a stafford with a very curly tail (like a basenji) and he was from very good stock, it just happens sometimes, mate of mine has one of the best looking dogs i have ever seen, until you realise he has no tail at all .these things just seem to happen sometimes i am afraid.

Hi, this is called a "gay" tail and can be a fault in the best bred litters as someone has just said.
It is a showing fault but he will still be a super pet :-)

Hi, I thought a gay tail was when the tail stood upright. I have seen a curly tail which looked like a besenji's tail but I've also seen one that sticks upright all the time. They both look totally different.

In many breeds a 'gay' tail is simply one that is carried too high.

Gay tail
"The tail carried very high or over a dogs back. A term sometimes used when a tail is carried higher than the carriage approved in the breed standard "

have a look here
canine terminology
Hope that helps
