Iv'e really enjoyed my day today, at a really well run Limited show. The venue was perfect, the ring was large and plenty of matting was provided. The atmosphere was so much friendlier and more relaxed than at larger shows. There was loads of applause for the winners. The commitee was really hard working,moving amongst the exhibitors attending to the business of making the show a success. There are more Limited Shows about nowadays, and it's not a bad thing. Well done and congratulations to the new Cheviot Canine Society, in North Northumberland.

We run two limited shows a year & they are very friendly & lots of fun

We have one just before Crufts so quite a few people use it as a final outing

We try to get a fair judge from outside the area & our last judge enjoyed himself so much he's now joined the Society

Incidently our BIS went on to win her class at Crufts :D

I love limited shows, so much smaller and no ticket winners to compeate against!!!!

Been to a couple of all breed ones, group ones and a breed one and all lovely little shows!  Thoughourly enjoyed them.  Must admit I enjoy matches aswell and every christmas we have a 2/3 way match in our area where every club has a team of about 30 i think and its a simple knock out competion and fish and chips half way!!! :D

If we all think back to our novice days the best fun ever were our first shows ok we may have got a third but as soon as we got home that rosette was pinned up on the wall dogs got extra cuddles and everything was great.Im happy to say I still feel like that when we have our fun dog show in summer to watch the people who are not show folk get soo excited to win its great.
It make s me sad when people are so used to winning its no thrill anymore.
Limited show are great I wonder how long they will last the meberships keep the societys going

I know what you mean about people not having the thrill of winning!  I saw one person storm out the ring because they only got RBOB at a champ show with tickets!  I would do anything for a RCC!!!!!!!!!!!  I love it when I win a class (unless Im the only one!)  and I agree it is nice to see non show people win at companion shows, and when you see the pet dogs walking round with all their rosettes!!!!! 

It takes me back to crufts, someone was dissapointed they hadn't got a CC, I was over the moon because my boy got down to the final 8, not even a place!  Also my not so settled bitch stood still in the handling, I was over the moon with that!!!!!  Other people just stromp out the ring because they didn't get BOB!!!!  God those people will never learn!!!!!

I think beginners should be made to go to these types of shows, there are so many these days who just want to go to champ. shows and can't be bothered with "anything less", their words not mine.  It really annoys me.

Unfortunately I'm unable to go to limit shows as they don't hold import register classes, but the few that I've been to in the past have been good fun.

Oh some people are only in it for the glory!  The rest of us are in it for a good day out with the dogs!

Last year a group of us done  a few companion shows, took a little picnic, (parents took a bottle of wine, or 2!!!)  Met up with more friends and had fun showing the dogs!  In the corner of most of th shows you would have seen the people who stormed out the ring because they didn't win, complain because a pet dog on a halti handled by a 10 yr old beat them! (this did happen!) and they stormed off home, dogs were draged etc!

Oh so much fun can be had at Limit shows.  I think back to our early days, everybody chatted to each other, a good tea was had and if you won or were placed it was the icing onthe cake so to speak.  We still try o go to the limit shows whenwe are able, usually the same clubs where we started.  I remember being a real novice and standing in front of a trophy table with my first ever show dog.  There was a trophy for the best Cavalier King Charles Spaniel,it was called the Rowley Waterson Memorial Trophy, I picked my Rowley up in my arms to show him the trophy saying to him 'look Rowley, it's got your name on it, one day if you are really clever you might win that',  Rowley was about a year old then and that day he indeed was best Cavalier, that trophy came home with us and was the proudest thing we ever had on our sideboard.  Rowley went on to win that trophy for years on end, he had over forty best of breeds and three best in shows- all breeds, BUT I never forgot that day and still today love to show for the fun of it, a rosette is bonus, we do however always take home the best dog and that to us is the single most important thing.  Enjoy the little club shows, support them and help the committees, if you don't there will come a day when all that is left is the championship circuit and no friendly gatherings.  On the vein please support your local ringcraft classes and not just when you have a puppy!!!!!!!

Hi all
I am a mere novice to the showing ring, only just beginning  to understand the language.  What is the difference between an Open Show and a Limit Show?  Can anyone enlighten me.  If I am being a bit thickplease indulge me.

Hi She, a Limited Show is a small show run for the paid up members of a canine society. They exclude dogs that have won  CCs, so no big winners allowed. In my experience they are thoroughly enjoyable and really friendly.
