Our 11 week old Bull Terrier, who we have had for a week now, keeps weeing and pooing in her crate. We don't have any newspaper in their which could confuse her and we have cleaned it with 'wash & Get off' spray. Last night we also took the blanket off the sofa, where she naps during the day, and put it in the crate in an attempt to stress that this is her bed.
We really don't know what else to do, she doesn't cry in the night to ask out, I have been listening for her and am a light sleeper.
Please help?!
She is a puppy, if she wakes up she will naturally "go". The fact she is penned in her crate is irrevelant except that it teaches her to go in her bed. Can you position the crate so that she has a small area outside it where she can go if she wakes up and you don't hear her? She may not even wake fully, just stir, realise she has a full bladder, stagger out of bed, eliminae, and then go back to sleep. This may well continue until she has finished teething.
Maybe having a mad game with her before bedtime so she is very tired may help?

I use a big crate and have the bed one end and paper the other and stand the whole thing on a ground sheet. But I use the cage to keep the pup out of danger overnight not as a toilet training tool, in fact I don't toilet train at all beyond making sure the pup is taken outside at frequent intervals. In my breed at least when they can hold it they do. :) so no point in going to any special measures to train them.

I can only speak from personal experience but have always had success toilet training using a crate.During the day its obviuosly a case of watching and putting pup out at regular intervals aswell as after food, sleep etc.I use a smallish crate(from Argos) when they are tiny...then a large one (42") when the are slightly older by which time they are clean over night. They have usually had accidents the first 2/3 nights but after that nothing.Saying that Frankie has now been home for 3 nights and has been put in his crate at about 10-11pm and has slept till we woke him the following morning(between 6-7 am) without any accidents.

I had this same problem when my little boy was being crate trained. But he was a lot worse than your pup, he cried every night in addition to toileting. So I decided to wake myself up each morning, usually at 3:00 AM and took little Houdini outside for a potty. This worked like a charm. Houdini would try to hold it before I took him out, but he was just too young to last all night. So taking him out in the middle of the night helped a ton. He was able to go potty outside and then come back to bed and sleep for the rest of the morning. Then we'd go outside again after everybody else had woken up. I did this for about a week or two, until Houdini was able to hold his wees and poos all night. Now, he is completely dry all night. He is only 5 months old. So, with your pup, try waking yourself up in the night and take her out to potty and then back inside to sleep again. It helped me and worked like magic, so maybe it could work for you. =)

Thanks for your replies. The crate is the one from Argos so its not big enough to have a papered area. We have a larger one for when she is bigger but I don't even think that would be big enough.
I think we are going to try waking in the night to let her out and hopefully this will work.
The vet nurse suggested putting her in the crate for all of her naps but I didn't want to do this as I love the cuddles during the day :D
I'll let you know how we get on.

Thanks archer, I will try the bicarb - much better than chemicals. Should I mix it with water and wash the plastic base of her pen with it?
An update - Last night I planned to get up at 3am (we went to bed at 10.45 and she was crated) but she woke me up at 1am so I rushed downstairs and she has already wee'd and pooed. I cleaned her up and my husband got up for her this morning at 6am when she woke us up - again she had already wee'd and pooed.
I had to pop to the shops this morning for about 1 hour so when I got back I was expecting her to have wee'd or pooed but she hadn't :) I praised her and she went over to the paper and did a wee - so proud of her for holding it.
I think we are just going to have to persevere and hopefully we'll get there. I had forgotten how much hard work pups are, but she is worth it.

Just keep at it ..when it clicks with her it will stick...but till then just keep doing what you're doing...she's still very young.
