Topic Other Boards / Foo / Riding Holiday..question?
- By liberty Date 28.03.04 20:12 UTC
I'm going on a riding holiday in May on Dartmoor. It's been suggested I buy a Stockmans coat, as the weather can be, well variable. The thing is, I'm quite short, and I know I'll look like a charachter from 'Michael Bentines Potty Time'  plus I can't see me wearing it again; anyway I have a perfectly good Barbour coat I can wear.

Does anyone know if it's possible to buy water-proof chaps, or the equivalent, to keep me little legs dry, or better still a website??

Did I tell you I have four horses now? :D

Not sure about waterproof chaps - I just wer my berghaus jacket and waterproof overtrousers....when I am mad enough to go riding in the rain that is... :D :D

FOUR HORSES!!!

Snot fair! *grumble* did your Mum never tell you about sharing?! ;)

OK, I'm not in the least bit jealous, but where did you get your waterproof overtrousers from? Obviously you need them to ride 4 HORSES!!

Have you not seen Chloe in her spangled tights and tutu doing her circus act? ;)

PS - you're not short anyway! You're my height, and I'm not short!

Have you been to watch then JG?? LOL

I must be mad - 3 of them are greys and one is a chestnut mare!!

Yell if you would like a pic of one of my latest additions. The new pony needs some feeding up and TLC before I do pics (sucker for a sob story  )

This I gotta see :D :D

We may be the same height JG, but I'm rather 'broader round the beam' than you, so if I can donate a stone or 2 to you, I won't have to ride a cart horse on this holiday...Pleeeeeeeeeeese say yes??

liberty :)

Ps. Seen some lovely photos of Chloes horses on her website, however there is a distinct lack of Retrievers.......Chloe?? ;)

I think you will probably find some waterproof riding chaps at www.robinsons-uk.com or www.rideaway.co.uk. (sorry can't do links.) You will also find your normal waterproof trousers at somewhere like millets, (camping shop, website address is, www.millets.co.uk). I'm really jealous, i have always wanted to go on a riding holiday!!!

Oooh! I was at school in Tavistock! And the Peter Tavy Inn is great! Can I come too please?

No probs JG, always room for a little 'un, especialy if they know the way to the Peter Tavy Inn, otherwise I'm back to the *ribena* ;)

If you have a Mole Valley FArmers near you, or can stop in at the one just of J27 M5 on your way down, they sell decent Wax chaps in different sizes for around £15.

Thanks for that Julia :) Just had a quick look at their website, as I'd rather get some before we travel. They don't seem to do mail order, but it's handy to know that wax chaps are available. Thanks again :)

Obviously you'll need waterproof chaps libs, I mean its quite difficult to balance a glass of wine in one hand while riding...

Exactly Geoff :) and you can't imagine how much practise I'm having to put in just sitting on the chair

Or you could use one of those things cyclists use ... what's it called ... a 'Camelback'. Instead of the water they recommend you could decant your Ribena into it ... ;)

I used one of these when I rode across Jordan, unfortunately it had only water in it......................... :D
- By G30ff [gb] Date 01.04.04 14:18 UTC
oh yes I forgot about them JG, I've got one that holds two litres, having said that libs would have to stop for refills every hour or two...

I wonder if the Dartmoor pubs do draught ribena? She can top up then.
:D
- By liberty Date 01.04.04 15:10 UTC
Will be checking all Dartmoor pubs; just in case supplies run low :D

Scrumpy is very thirst quenching :D
- By Julia [gb] Date 02.04.04 07:25 UTC
It is also very good for encouraging the sway motion to match the natural rythmn of the horse (oh, and numb sore bums) :D
- By tohme Date 02.04.04 07:33 UTC
Would that be scrumpy, bumpy, rumpy syndrome? :D :D

And afterwards do you get frumpy, grumpy, lumpy syndrome :D :D
- By Julia [gb] Date 02.04.04 10:11 UTC
Exactly the one I was thinking of :D :D

But can also be known as woozy floozy disease :D
