wounder if anyone could help I have a 20 year old yorkie ,he is still very active,he is on zubrin to help with the pain he sometimes has with his legs. and fortekor as he has signs that his kidneys are not working as well as they should be, what I need help with is about 2 months ago He had a fit he was falling all over the place, crying ,and messing himself. it was the most awful thing to see. anyway he has been fine since then .but tonight after feeding him he was sick, and then fell to floor kicking legs about, then it dawned on me the last fit was after he was sick, do you think is was the strain on him being sick,or was being sick part of the fit.(he has just been put on selgian for the fits.) About 2 mins after all this he was fine playing with other dog, could the fits be linked to his kidney problems.
Hi Oliver
It is probably best for you to ask your vet about this as he knows your dog and the medication you are giving him. Fits are a strange thing and some dogs can sense them in humans before they happen so it may even be that your dog is being sick because he is going into a fit - as I say, best to discuss with your vet. Hope he manages to sort it out for you

Oliver,
Yes, the fits can be linked to the kidney problem. Also to liver problems and many other types of problems.
I know you are not going to like what I have to say, but if he keeps fitting I would suggest that you consider having him PTS. He has lived to a grande old age and you want to make the end of his life as comfortable as possible. Two years ago this August my Yorkie also started to fit, she was almost 13 years old. First fit was the evening of a day when she had been very lively and happy. A couple of days later, another one. We had lots of tests done, but she kept fitting, and more often, even on antiseizure medicine. Eventually it got to the point where she was nearly constantly fitting, but mostly just falling down because of the med decreasing the severity of her fits. We had to have her PTS - from her first fit until her last day was only two weeks, thankfully. My only regret was waiting that long - she became very confused, stopped wagging her tail, and her life was a misery.
Her blood tests showed some problems, but not enough to cause a fit. We had a sonogram done which showed some nodules on her liver and unfortunately also showed the early stages of bladder cancer. Even with all that the vet (we saw a neurologist eventually) said she did not think even these problems were enough to cause her to fit. Sometimes you just cannot point to a specific reason.
