My boyfiriend and I are considering buying a Cavalier King Charles and we were wanting to know if our life style and home would be a suitable environment for this sort of dog, we live on the top floor of an apartment block but it is across the road from a park area so it is not too restricted, both myself and my boyfriend work long hours but it is shift work so there should always be someone home but at different times of the day so hopefully the dog would not be alone in the house for too long, these may seem silly questions that I should be able to answer myself but we would really like one of these dogs but we want to make sure that it is raised properly and as breeders/owners I was hopeing that you could recommend whether we should or shouln't go ahead with this.

If there is always someone at home and the house is only left empty for say 2-3 hours MAX a day then this should be fine.  when you first get the dog I would recormend that there is someone at home all the time untill the dog is used to the surrounding and is grown up.

I am not an expert on cavaliers so can't say if they would be good for your style but Im sure most dogs would be so go and talk to breed specilists who know about the breed you want.

Cavaliers are real people dogs & don't like being left but can learn to cope with a few hours, but you need to be there all the time when you first get your puppy so you can train him/her to get used to being left & being in a crate for the puppy's safety as they will chew anything if they get bored & have access to things they should not chew

They can take an little or as much exercise as you like when they are adult but like all puppies need careful exercise when young.

The parents must have a current eye & heart certificate & this will be on thepuppies KC registrations as well as the parents eye & heart test certificates. they should also both be free from luxating patellas(slipping knee caps)

I advise anyone who is thinking about getting a cavalier to be very very careful as they are a very commercal breed & always visit the breeder & see the mum & puppies(dad might not be there as many people use outside stud dogs, but the breeder should have all his details & a photograph)

I live in the north of England but my dogs come from a breeder 200 miles away as I know I can trust their breeding unlike some of the local breeders & I also like their dogs

when i get a new puppy i always take a few weeks holiday,so the baby can settle in & i can make the most of the prescous puppy days!
when the puppy is still young be careful with the stairs to your flat, but a CKC is going to be easy enough to carry!
good luck!
