My Cocker spaniel was mated on the 28th February and through until 5th March, so I took her to the vet yesterday to see if she was pregnant, she was unsure and so suggested a scan, the scan concluded that she wasn't pregnant, but I'm pretty sure she is.
Her nipples are a dark pink and have enlarged to 3 times their normal size, she's very loving at the moment to, she also has quite fishy breath, that she doesn't normally have and some clear discharge.
How likely is it that the vet could be wrong, or could this be a false pregnancy.
Her dates were calculated carefully and being as she's had 6 days of mating, covering from the earliest day to the latest day of her cycle, I find it hard to believe that she isn't.
Any advice or help would be much appreciated

Hi Guest,
She could be as little as 23 days, and at the most 29 days pregnant, personally I would look at it as somewhere in the middle. I mght be wrong, but I don't think a vet could get an acurate reading from a scan that early. I would say from about 35 days is about right.
I have a Staffie, she was scanned last time at 30 something days (can't remember exactly) They told me it was a phantom, she went on to have 6 puppies
Good luck with your bitch.
Michelle.
PS My Staffie was mated 3rd And 5th of March, which makes her 21 to 23 days, I won't be having her scanned for a couple of weeks. But like you I am quite sure she is pregnant.

A friend of mine had her cocker mated from days 10 - 18, she showed signs of being pregnant, extra soppy, refusing to eat, her nipples enlarged and darkened right up to 6 weeks, then suddenly over night all symptons disappeared and she went back to normal, turned out to be a false pregnancy, she was very disappointed :-(
I've read vets can get it wrong, maybe you could take her back in a couple of weeks to have her re-scanned just to be sure.
Good luck
Hi Guest, i would keep a watch over her i know someone who had a lab scanned vet said nothing there. Ended up having 7 pups, leave her a couple of weeks and get her scanned again. The vet should do it for nothing second time around and if she is in whelp and they try charging you tell them no! after all they got it wrong the firts time.. Goodluck...
