My OH, s laptop has a 'Trojan Horse Dialer' detected by AVG which when it scans cannot find it and deal with it. What do I do? Have run updated AVG, Stinger, The Cleaner and a non-updated Taurean none of which find it and sort it out. I think its in one of the registry files - a dll file. Am reluctant to connect to internet as I don't know what it is doing e-mailing etc. I don't even know where it came from, laptop isn't used very often for internet and receiving emails. Have searched computer websites for help even Microsoft site but can't find anything to tell me what to do.
Please help.
Thanks
Sue

Hi Sue
Not sure how useful this is, but
Here is a link to a forum where exactly the same thing is being discussed. There are some solutions talked about, so maybe you could give some of them a try?
Hope this helps and good luck getting rid of it!!

What version of windows are you running? If ME or XP then disable the "System Restore", reboot then enable "System Restore" again. The virus gets into the file used by this and is then out of reach by the virus checkers.
Best wishes, John

John, how do I disable System Restore? I can't see what to click. (I'm running ME.)

Sorry JG but it is so long since I ran ME that I can't remember.
The procedure in XP is to bring up the System Restore by clicking on "Start", "Help and Support" then the item which says "Undo changes to your system using SYSTEM RESTORE". This brings up a box and on the left hand side is "System Restore Settings" If you click on that it brings up another box at the top of which is "Turn off System Restore to all Drives"
My guess would be that ME would use something similar because the System Restore was used on ME for the first time and carried over to XP when that operating system was designed. I know I did have to turn it off a couple of times when I was running ME but it's just too long ago for my tired old brain!
Best wishes, John
