Our friend had her baby's foot and hand prints done in paint then she took it to a glass shop/double glazing place where they scanned it in on a computer and sand blasted onto a lovely thick piece of glass with her name and date of birth on it - it looks stunning, and looking at her now you wouldnt believe that her hands and feet were every that small!  If you can't get anything by sunday im sure the parents would prefer something that will last forever and wait a little bit longer, but my friend had it sandblasted on the same day so there might be time.

I know you say not silver, but how about a piece of antique jewelry, something maybe with her birthstone in it,a real keepsake.
There are lots of antique shops in your area! :)

Ask Jeeves for the star or moon thing.  I believe you buy online and receive a certificate for the star and a cert and map for the moon.

Go for it.

You could also have one of her shoes (or other small item) gold or silver plated and engraved.  Can't remember where I have seen that advertised tho'.

The star and moon thing sounds very romantic but at the end of the day what is there to show for it ?. Not as if you can prove it !.
I think the idea of dedicating a tree is nice - as well as being useful to the planet at least the child has something to see. The Woodland Trust do them all over the country (think you can order on-line).

We bought each of our daughters a "proof set" of couns from the Royal mint. They also do an uncirculated set of coins in pink or blue packaging which can be bought from most main post offices. Our girls still like to look at "their" coins!
