I didn't have anything to do so i thought i would take lily for another walk. i never normally go at this time and now i realise why. god damn friday after school ! lily doesn't normally meet many children so a field full of kids playing football was a nightmare ! she kept running off and stealing their ball and i couldn't get her back, she was just running around a loopy mad thing. i eventually got her back, and after a while of her being on the lead i decided to let her off to play fetch (i was quite a way from the children now). she chased the ball once and then hurtled back to the kids ! i was absolutely mortified, then she saw another dog and went to see that too, then she decided a swim would be great ! luckily she dropped the ball at the side of the river and i managed to run over and grab it and lure her back. she was put firmly back on the lead and dragged home.
i'm so embarrassed, she normally heads off to see dogs or people and i call her and she turns around and comes back straight away. i don't want to let her off the lead now, i'm worried she'll do this again :(

Aaaaaaaw she just seen the kids having so much fun all she wanted to do was play too :(
You big meany :D
i wouldn't have minded so much but the kids were yelling at her to go away and calling her a stupid dog :( only one seemed to think she was cute
it might have been easier to get her back if they had stopped playing briefly but they just kept going so it was impossible to get hold of her :(

Dogs can be so embarrassing sometimes aren't they?! Today my 11 month old retriever dashed into the local pond harrassing the swans, apart from the fact that this is really dangerous it was also mortifying standing at the edge screaming at her to come (which she normally does) yet i get ignored. Meanwhile people all around are giving me very dissapproving looks, and i just want to die!! We've walked there before and she has never bothered before but today she just went barmy so i think we will have to walk on lead there next time. She also goes barmy over kids too, when she was younger she used to jump all over any kids we met, which is very embarrassing when they are screaming and trying to escape and Ellie just thinks there playing. (She stayed on a lead for a very long time!!! :-)

So your retriever has discovered swans well she is a gundog even if she has got big ideas!!!!!!!!!!! Now your life has really begun - I too have had a similar thing happen with six retrievers usually very obedient and of course nobody about then but where do people come from when they are naughty???
Where I walk everybody knows my dog whistle and laugh.

Dog went for a swim? Previously obedient unless water involved? Welcome to Chesapeake world! :-)
