Please could someone give me some guidance, Our Weimaraner bitch is 55 days from first mating and I have been reading Book of the bitch as recommended by loads of you on the site. It says that by now I should have seen puppy movement in her tummy and she should have had a wax plug and liquid from her teats? She hasn't had any of this yet should I be concerned if the pups are developing Ok? or is she possibly not so far down the line as I thought? She was mated 1st on Feb 1st and again on Feb 3rd. This is her first litter and mine so we are thrilled but a little inexperienced, although I have read the book of the bitch inside out several times!Help please!

Don't know if it puts your mind at rest or not, but during my last litter I could not feel or see any movement at all. She produced 9 puppies in the end. I suppose they were so tightly packed in that movement was difficult!

Thanks for the responses, Thumper is the milk actually coming out of her teats or is it just in the mammary glands? My bitches belly looks really saggy around her back mammary glands especially but no milk coming out yet. I have had it reccomended to me to give her Goat milk? but other people say Ewe's milk and some even Lactol? which would you all recommend, if any, to make sure she gets enough protein/ she is already having food adlib at the moment but has lost her appetite and is having a little quite often for the last 2 days. What type of breed do you have Thumper? Is this your first whelping experience too?
yep my first breeding to and ive been worried sick,
i have a jack russell terrier and she has milk coming from her nipples and her mammary glands are swollen ready,
crystal isnt eating as much has she has been but im given her 4 meals a day but they are small meals,
ive read the bbok of the bitch from start to finish and other breeding book but they both have different ideas of what happens and when during pregnancy so i do get a little confused, but im taking each day as it comes
good luck hope all works out for you

Thanx for the advice naomi, I have got her some Lactol today as she is barely eating, just picking really and I am concerned she needs more nourishment. Fingers crossed she likes it!
Hi silverghost, it looks like we have bitches whelping on the same date. But dont worry about not seeing any movement when my girl had her 1st litter i couldnt see any movement and she ended up with 11 fit healty pups. I also feed puppy kibble from 6 weeks.. Best of luck with her...

Hi Silver, I wouldn't give her any sort of milk unless she likes it and you know it doesn't upset her tummy. Some bitches have no visible milk at the teats until the pups are born, others are like a dripping tap a week in advance. When you feel the pups depends on the bitch herself, how she is carrying the pups, how much fluid there is in the sacs and on how you do the feeling. The best way is to wait until she is lying on her side snoozing, then lay the flat of your relaxed hand gently on her flank just as if you were only resting it there. Leave your hand there for a bit and if something moves, great. If it doesn't try other areas or the other side. And if you still don't feel anything, try not to worry about it ;) :)
Best of luck

WOW! Thanx JAS! I felt the pups move today, I just gave her some breakfast and she actually ate it all and then when she laid down, I put my hand where you said on the flanks and it was like piccadilly circus in there! I can feel lots of small movements on both sides of her! I can actually see them moving faintly if I watch now, I think I was looking for something to near enough pop out of her tummy at me, but it is much more subtle than that, but definitely there! Thank you for the advice!
