my dog is coming up for 2 years old and I would like to put him up for stud he is proven as he has lined my three staffie bitches and produced some really nice pups. im starting to get a lot of interest in him and he is well bred. my question is, how much should I charge? Ive been told the fee should be the price of a puppy, so I was thinking of charging £350. does this sound about right?

£350 is a lot for a stafford stud
one of my bitches has just had her litter off a show dog and i was charged £200
and i have been looking for another stud for my other bitch and the 1 i like the best is a champ and that is only going to cost me £230
i have put my dog out at stud a few times and i charge a lot less than that cos i don't show him. the most important thing is that he has been eye tested and it is clear and that he has a good temp and a few breeders are now asking for HD results
i think the average is about £150
hope that helps

the price of a stud should be equal to the price of a puppy, you are right guest. If the dog is not registered etc then the stud fee should obviously be less :-)

In my breed, being a numerically small breed the stud fee is the price of a puppy, but it appears from the other reply that the more populous breeds the stud fee is a lot less, probably as a dog gets more 'work' than in the less common breeds.

stafford champions and top sires are usually around £200 ( around 1/2 the price of a well bred puppy) and dogs with not so much winning or that have not produced much of note are usually £125 - £150.

when we used to use our stafford at public stud we charged £300, as this is the price we would sell his pups for. I think if you are planning on selling your puppies for £150 - 200 then the stud fees you have mentioned sound fine, but for a KC reg staffie, puppy prices are usually much higher than £150 - 200 so the stud fee should reflect the quality of the dog being used. It is worth noting that good Irish stafford stud dogs often have a stud fee of £300 - 400 and these are dogs not registered with the KC.
