hi everyone,i have entered my akita-inu (11 month old bitch) for her first show on easter tuesday, but the thing is that i have been so busy with work and stuff that i haven't had a chance yet to train her to stand.I know that i should have been doing it from an early age,but do you think that i have left it to late for this easter any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Whether you left it too late or not go and enjoy the show with your puppy. Have a great time

teaching a dog to stand can be done at home...it takes just a few minutes a day. However  since you only have a couple of weeks I wouldn't expect her to be foot perfect.Do what you can but remember its more than teaching them to stand you need to teach them to move correctly too.
Go along for the experience for both you and your dog....then MAKE some time ...I don't mean to be rude but I am slightly worried that you can't find a couple of minutes a day for training your dog or one night a week to go to ring craft !

thank,s for your reply archer,i know that you're not being rude,it's just that i have been working an awfull lot lately,as well as doing a lot of work to my house. The breeder of my dog had offered a long time ago to put us through our paces so to speak, she was willing to give up a couple of her saturdays to get us started, but it's my fault that we never did.I will try to get up this weekend for an hour or so and then take it from there, but i think that we will go to the show even if we are not perfect and just gain some experience out of it,for both of us)

Hi,
I don't know your breed - are they shown free-standing or stacked? If free-standing then you can practice every time you feed her or give her a titbit. Tell her to 'stand', and as soon as she has all four feet on the ground and is standing still, give her the reward (titbit or dinner). As she gets the hang of it you can start to become more picky - wait a bit longer to reward her, and get fussier about her stance.
Hope this helps.

hi, thank's for that jeangenie, she is an akita-inu,and they are shown stacked, although i live in belfast and that's where the show is.,she will be up against the american type akita as there is only a handful of akita inu over here and under the engish kennel club rules they are shown as one breed...whenever they don't even look the same!!!!
