Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / My dog is tooooo friendly!!!

Was walking Anna today my youngest gsd and she is great with dogs off lead but I always have to hold her collar whilst walking past people. The problem is she is too friendly and will greet and jump up at anyone walking past. Any way I held her collar whilst walking past a lady with an ESS and when I'd got far enough away from her I let go and she turned around and scared this woman and made her scream because she jumped up at her. I apologised to her and she said it was fine but she really did frighten her!
I must say I'm not surprised I would scream if a gsd came running up to me and jumped all over me. She did come back to me when called but she just ran so fast that I didn't have time to call her before she got there.
Any suggestions - like I said she will come back when called and even waits for me when I don't call her. I dont want to put her off people because she has such a nice temperement but this is starting to get more frequent
Any advice would be great
Thanks
Amy

I had this with Toby, so everytime we went past people and he started pulling i told him to sit and wait, it may not work for everyone but it worked for us and now i no longer have to do this.

hi, my 6 month old gsd has only just learned that he doesn't need to bark at everyone when we are out. you are lucky. i've had to work hard at meeting as many people as pos, and making friends with total strangers to build his confidence, he loves other dogs and seemed fine with people with dogs, but not on their own. luckily i think i've cracked it, much better now.

Put the dog back on the lead/long line until you have an instant recall/sit/down etc.

hi

my boxer is exactly the same she was once hit by a man she jumped up at and sported a swollen eye for a few days! still did'nt deter her though now i have her whistle trained as soon as she hears it she's back as she knows it means a game with her ball which she loves, it is a pain but i'd rather have her over friendly than the other way round.
