I recently did a one day taster course on dog grooming as I have two standard schnauzers and getting them groomed has become quite a costly exercise.I thought that if I enjoyed the course then I could perhaps do a longer course to cover the other breeds. Boy was I glad that I didn't sign up for the 30 day course!

I took my dogs with me but they they had prevously been groomed one of my dogs was groomed by a breeder who has won a few awards in crufts so she must be doing something right. The lady who owned the dog grooming school told me my dogs had not been groomed properly!

She then took me inside and showed me around. Basically she has around 5 students who must be paying heer between £50 and £75 pounds per day who groom dogs. Then the owners bring their dogs in to be done by the students and she charges 45 for a standard schnauzer and about 35 for a westie. Very  Lucritive!!!!

I was shown how to wash a dog and hand strip the dogs back but nothing else as the dog was aggresive and she knew this as she had groomed the dog before on several occasions. I did not see her grooming the dogs face which is the main point nor its legs as she did not let me in the room with the dog. She then spent five minutes (if that) showing me how to do a shitzu's feet before walking off and letting me get on with it.

She gave me a discount of £25 on the course for the day. In that day I learned only two things look into grooming courses very carefully and don't pay over the odds to have your dogs groomed by students.

Just the sort of thing which gives the Grooming industry a bad name.  Coileen, could I have permission to copy your post onto a groomers only list please?
bye

Of course. I don't have a problem at all. I feel totally ripped off but it only cost me £50. My worry is for all the people who pay out £2200 for the full course. Especially if they have saved up to do it.
