Topic Dog Boards / Showing / can someone else show you dog?
- By rover [gb] Date 25.03.04 08:35 UTC
Hello,

Can someone tell me the rules over the person showing a dog in the ring. Does it have to be the registered owner? or can the dog be shown by say your husband or wife who is not on the details given to the kennel club?

Thanks

You can get someone else to show your dog for you, in fact some people pay handlers to show their dogs for them.

In the US I gather it is mostly professional handers who show and not many owners

Hi Rover, yes you can have anyone you wish to handle your dog in the ring. It would be wise to choose someone that the dog interacts well with, because you want him to be happy and relaxed, and to give his best in the ring. The only rule I know of regarding handlers is this. You can not show a dog under a judge that has handled that dog within the previous 12 months.

Thankyou for the information, I thought it should be possible. Its just I am not going to be available for one show so I am going to get my husband to do it. Thankfully he's one of these people that goes to all the shows with me and trains him, so he knows what to do. It will be funny if he gets better results than I do :-)

My Ch Schip gets handled by loads of different people if I'm sick when I arrive at a show and the git always behaves better for them than me - althought he was good enough to get his CC's whilst mummy was handling thankfully.

oh I can guarantee he wouldn't let me forget :-)

Though the main thing is his result, it kind of spoils all that training and hardwork for someone else to take the glory, oh well we will wait and see
