Hi guys sorry to be a pain but mitzy still showing no signs of labour but one thing i have noticed when i am out walking her is her urine has a very strong odour to it should i be worried. Also her poop has gone from being runny and horrible back to its normal hard.
She is well in herself and her temp is fine still eating and drinking and seems to be sleeping alot.
mike
hi if i rub mitzys tummy she will lay there and stare at her rear and then all of a sudden will jump up and start sniffing and licking her rear i cant feel her tummy contracting but it does seem hard.
Someone please tell me this is her labour starting as i dont think i could take another sleepless night lol
Sorry I can't be much help, I've never had a litter, just to say I'm thinking of you and Mitzy, and hope all goes well.
With anyluck, some nightowl breeders will be around to give you some advice.
Good Luck :)

With one bitch frequently looking at her rear in a puzzled way was the only sign I got before the first pup appeared.
Best of luck :)
Edited to say her temp hasn't dropped, she isn't close to her date and especially if she isn't off her food, it probably isn't anything much.

Hi Mike,
I cant beleive she hasn't had them yet. Noo kept looking at her rear end and was constantly cleaning herself, then it all started!! I have got my fingers crossed for you that she has them soon. My lot are 4 days old and I will have sleepless nights for about 5 weeks as I sleep with them lol!!
Good Luck Mike, if you are still worried thyen phone the vet again
Kelly
Hi am i going to call the vet as soon as it opens and see what they suggest as i dont want anything going wrong. I will update on what happened with them when i get back
Mike
Hiya mitzy been to the vets and the said everything is fine her cervix is still abit tight they want to see her again tomorrow and if nothing they want to do an elective C-section.
If everything is fine why would they want to do a ceaser.

I have been following this along with other people here and I really feel for you. It has been a long haul. Maybe the vet feels the same way. Try not to worry too much, I know that is easier said than done. An elective c/section doesnt mean anything is wrong. I have never been in this situation myself but a breeder I know had an elective c/section carried out on her dog and she had 5 healthy puppies and mum was fine too. Please try not to worry.
Kat
Hi i dont know what the vet has done when she did the internal exam but when i usually come back from walking mitzy she usually runs straight into the living room and lays next to the sofa now she runs in and its straight upstairs under my bed.
Sha has been digging at my carpets and some blankets i put under the bed for her since yesterday now She has not eaten anything today and cant poop no matter how hard she tries.
The vet i saw was not at my practice i went to another one as i could not get hold of my vets, Anyway i have finally got hold of them and told her what the other vet has said and she says i am to leave it a couple of days as she could go upto 72days unless there is any foul smelling dark or bloodied discharge coming from her vulva and mitzys temp does not go up and is in no distress, not to worry and aslong as the puppies are still moving around.
She also said that when mitzy got mated she may not have been at her fertile point and she may not have concieved for 2-3mabye 4 days after mating so i have to take that into consideration.
So i am going to leave it for now and see my own vet if nothing happens on monday.
Will keep you all updated

Mike if you do a search of old threads from 17/18/19 Feb 2003 you will read a thread that I posted called Due Yesterday Part 1 and Part 2 telling the tale of a litter my dog was responsible for whose pregnancy seemed to go on and on and on.
Be patient, it will all turn out ok in the end!
HI jacky i cant seem to find the thread you are talking about it says not found.
Anyway mitzy is now lay under the bed and has started shivering like mad as if she is scared of something,
She ran up there when i put her food out she sniffed it and off she went lol.

Mike if you click on search in the top right hand corner of this page, then select breeding as the board and my name as the poster you should find it. I have just managed to pull up the whole thread which went on for some days and gives quite a lot of advice. Once again just use the board and posted by boxes on the search.
Good luck!

Mike, you must be going out of your mind. I have been following along with Mitzy's progress from when you first posted about not being sure whether she was pregnant or not right up until now. I have got everything crossed for you and Mitzy.

Mike, if it's any consolation my bitch whelped her last litter (healthy pups) on day 68 from the first mating.
:)
Hi guys well i dont know what the vet has done while she did an internal on mitzy but she still has not eaten and seems very nervous and frightend usually when she has been for her walk she will run straight into the front room and lays next to the sofa. Now she runs in and straight up the stairs and under my bed i have brought her down and put her in her bed and she has dug her bed up and is panting like crazy she keeps haveing bouts of shivering then stops then will shiver again.
She cant have a poop and just in general seems very nervous so i think i wont need the cesear after all as she is showing all typical signs of labour.
Just a quick question could even though her cervix was still abit tight when she when to the vets this morning that as the day is progressing her cervix is dilating just like in a woman i know thats a sily thing to ask but hey thats me full of silly questions lol
Thanks to you all for all the help and support you have all given its greatly appreciated.
Mike
Hi Mike, I think your Mitzy may have started, the shivering is an indication that labour is on its way. This often happens in humans, when a woman attends the Gynacology clinic and is examined internally it often starts things in motion. I hope it is and not another false alarm, I too have been following this thread with interest since you emailed me in the early stages of Mitzy's pregnancy and I dont think "MY" nerves will stand it and I am sure yours must be in tatters, anyway good luck and I wait with baited breath to hear your news.....Pat
I have tried offering her chicken, ham and stuff like that and she seems to cower away from it as if its going to hurt her.
I have never seen her so restless while we are out walking after she has done what she has to she is in a hurry to get home and is straight to bed.
Does the shivering come and go as she seems to shiver for awhile and then just stop and then start up again.
She has been out a few times today and still cant seem to poop and god knows she is trying her hardest she even squatts to have a pee sometimes and nothing comes out but a drop of water oh and a blob of mucus will drop out.
Mike

Seems to be something moving I would not go walking with her now
Jean
Hi Mike, yes the shivering will come and go, I would take her through to her whelping box now and give her a big wadge of newspaper to scratch up, certainly sounds now as if she is in labour. if she is doing big strains and looking at her rear end it may mean that the first pup is on its way, especially as you say she is now passing a "blob" of mucous, watch for more mucous and a buldge protruding from her vulva or a gush of liquid this usually heralds the birth of the first puppy. Just a thought Mike, her trying to go to the toilet may be her contractions so I wouldnt let her outside now but if you have to, make sure you are close by as she is a maiden bitch she may think she needs her bowels opened and is actually pushing out the pups.......Good luck....Pat

Hi Mike I hope you and mitzy are alright and although i have never bred it certainly sounds as though mitzy is on her way, just by comparing what i went through in labour :-O . Mike,
I hope you don't mind me saying but do you have anyone at the end of the phone apart from the vet if you need someone.
I found this a help with my first litter, even for a bit of reasurance.
Suddenly questions pop into your head even though you thought you were ready.
Maybe your dogs breeder, the stud owner or something. The PC is further away that a phone in your hand for some support.
Good luck..
Yay! Come on Mitzy!
I don't want to go to bed now in case it starts during the night and I wanted to watch the 'story' develop!
At least tomorrow I know I'll be up early for once, to check this!
Aww, even guests are leaving messages for Mike. We are all hooked!

Been a silent follower for the past few days also. Am so excited for you, dont worry, things will be ok and you have loads of people who are on here all the time willing and happy to give advice, dont be frightened of asking (even if its just the smallest of things) Most of us have been there in the panic of a first litter (and every subsequent litter!!)
Please let us know how things are going
EbonyDawn
Well she is still at the panting and shivering stage and is very restless she will pant heavy then breath heavy through her nose.
From what i have been told this can last for 24hours but i just cant go to bed incase she has them.
If i drink anymore tea or coke i will look like them.
I have not seen her straining or pushing yet so it could be the morning when the decide to show themselves.
Mitzy is traumatised with all this poor girl just hope all goes smoothly i have delivered animals before and even delivered a horse but for some reason i am a nervous wreck.
I would like to thank all you guys for all your help and support and i am sorry if i have you all hooked its better than an episode of corrie lol
Will keep you all updated.

I am still here for you MIke. I know its something you have to do for yourself but please feel welcome to pm me if you have any problems, I am more than happy to sit up with you to keep you company. A good friend of mine sat up and kept me company when my girl had puppies last year, I must say it made a lot of difference just knowing there was someone to talk to
(hugsss ))))
