Kirra and I are looking for new things to teach her. Games that we can play in the house. She loves to show off her already learned tricks, but I'd like to expand her repitore. I was looking in to it yesterday and decided I am going to teach her to go to her "mark." I'd also like to teach her the names of her toys so she will retrieve the one I ask for. How do I go about doing that?
Any other suggestions as to things I can teach her. She is very bright and likes to learn.
Note: She is a corgi shaped dog, so am I understanding correctly when I assume anything requiring her to stand on her back legs isn't good for her back?

I have teached my English Cocker Spaniel and her name is Phantom. To play dead, roll over, weave through my legs, circle in front of me. Did you ever thought to teach your dog to dance with you and do the trickes that you teached your dog? Their are dancing with your dogs books and video's that you can buy. You can impress your friends and family too. I have my second dog and Chandler don't know any tricks.

Drai,
I've got a good one for you. Teach her on command, to go to the cupboard, open the door, pick up a bowl and bring it to you. If you attach a piece of rope, string to the handle of the door, it makes it easier for the dog to open the door. I taught it backwards (no, not doing it backwards!), getting the dog to fetch the bowl first, then getting them to open the door, then linking the two together.
Have fun

I found it much more interesting to teach them to bring me a tinnie :D

I am not sure I want her realizing she can open the cupboards. That is where we hid the garbages :) I've been trying to teach her to go pick up an object, but I'm not sure how I'd do that. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I guess I should have said what she knows already. She sits, lays down, stays, rolls over, plays dead when I "shoot" her, speaks, high five, Shake a paw, right paw & left paw. She likes to "go find" after I have hidden things in another room for her to find. She can jump really well, but has very little balance when standing on her hind feet. (Although it seems as though that is improving) Maybe I'll give dancing a try.
Oh ya, we are also working on "Go find _______(the name of someone in the house)" and she seems to be getting the hang of it.

Open and shut doors, empty the washing machine/dryer, tidy up, ..........................the list is endless
Hi Drai if you want to dance with Kirra teach her the twist, they love it! Start in a corner so she cant back up, take a treat to her eye level and lure her round in a circle, 1/4 turn at a time as you say Twist for clockwise and Turn for anticlockwise, work round in several sessions till she goes right round then go faster each time, flick the treat at the end. Makes heel work lots of fun as well as dancing. TraceyL can teach you to wiggle her through your legs and you can twist and wiggle your way into a routine. :D

Personally I'd be careful of quick twisting/bending movements in a long backed dog........

Spice has grasped the toy recognition, she's a 5month border collie,we started her off by saying the names of her toys when she picked them up to play, like ball, squeaker, teddy etc. then we would throw the toy and say 'fetch squeaker',next we would put the toys in her toy box and say go find 'squeaker' or 'ball',when she bought back the right one we would praise her and play with her.She now knows about 6 different toys.
The hardest trick was teaching her to pick up all her toys and put them away, but now when the hoover appears she does it automatically!
The other thing we taught her was 'paws',when she comes into the house she lies down on a towel, rolls over and presents her paws up for a wipe. We did this with our previous dog ,we sometimes get caught out when we visit someone with her because she sits just inside their door and won't move until we have wiped her feet!! it impress's people when she does this in their home.
We often play hide and seek with her too, placing small treats, sometimes her toys in various places and getting her to retrieve them and line them up by the sofa, she is good with the toys but of course she eats the treats.
:D
So adapt it to suit the dog or try somehing else.
