Over the last couple of weeks my 11 month old bitch has been what I can only describe as it sounds like she has something stuck in her throat, a couple of coughs every day at no particular time/place. Yesterday when I had her out walking she did it again but it lasted about 30 seconds, lastnight it lasted about 1 minute which was scary, even she looked worried with her ears drawn right back. I'm sure I've read a post on here about a similar thing and someone said it was a hairball? She's eating & drinking o.k. and she's never been better healthwise apart from this problem. Does anyone know of a similar problem or should I take her to the vet? I was thinking of video taping her doing it and taking it to show the vet.

Sound like Kennel Cough, if it has been going on for a couple of weeks a visit to the vet would be a good idea, tell the receptionist that she is coughing as it is very contagious and they may ask you not to take her into the waiting room. Until you have seen the vet do not let her meet anyother dogs and do not take her out in the street.
The other thing it could be is a soft pallet but as it has only been for the last 2 weeks I would suspect an infection.
Sorry I didn't explain properly, when she started doing it it was only say once every two or three days for a second or two. I'm no expert but wouldn't say it's kennel cough, I've had two dogs in the past who have had kennel cough and it doesn't sound like that, she hasn't done it atall this morning, lastnight was the worst she's ever been.

Unfortunately although you say that you don't think it is Kennel Cough. It sounds awfully like it . The hacking noiseas if something is stuck in her throat does point towards KC. have you looked down her thoat? Try pressing on the windpipe and see if that provokes a cough. If it does, chances are that it is KC. True t could be something stuck but I would take her to the vet to get her checked out just to be sure. I don't think that if there was a hairball there though that she would be like this for 2 weeks.
Hope she is ok.
