Ive just sprayed my bitch with frontline, something i have used before, she trembled as usual but within 5 mins of me doing it she started panting badly then collapsed, she is sort of back on her feet now but has slunk off to a corner of to the garden and is just laying there. I have tried to tempt her with a drink and a biscuit but her eyes are glazed and she isnt interested, now for the biggest problem, I moved to Spain 5 weeks ago (its not the weather, its very cool here at the moment) have located a vet but they arnt very local and my husband has gone back to the UK today to work leaving me with my dog and 4 kids. Has anyone else ever experianced this with front line before?? Any advice appreciated!
id take her to the vets asap, she sounds as if she is in shock for some reason or other
tanya
If you can't get her to the vet now or talk to them there is an email contact for Merial at

It would also be worth trying to wash the Frontline off if you are going to have problems getting to the vet. Is one of your children old enough to do this while you are contacting the vet/Merial etc?
Hope it turns out ok for you and your dog.

Thanks for the advice. She seems to have perked up now, I managed to tempt her with some cheese and although she is still subdued and clingy, her eyes arnt glazed anymore. Thanks for the email link, I will send one now and keep an eye on her and hope that the worst is over. I towelled her to get any excess off as soon as it happened she isnt the best dog with water and I thought that it would do more harm than good to wash her. My eldest child is nine and was hysterical when it happened so there wasnt much help available at the time but fingers crossed all looks well now.
Thanks again

Oh, I bet you're relieved that she is perking up now :) One thing I should have said is if you do bathe her, don't use an insecticidal shampoo to do it! Hopefully it's all over now and she'll soon be back to her normal self :)

You said "she trembled as usual" - if she always trembles as a reaction rather than emotion after giving it and now has had a stronger reaction I would not use it again without doing a lot of research into it first as some reactions get worse each time they are triggered.
On the site it recommends not washing the dog for 24 hours (as this reduces the effectiveness) so I would be inclined to wash her before it spreads over her body surface
I am guessing that you use the spray. Perhaps the spot on might be better in the future - if she is not allergic to it.

Hi Kerioak,
Sorry I meant 'trembled as usual' as an emotion as opposed to a reaction, she trembles and tries to run as soon as she sees the bottle and continues while I am applying then usually stops as soon as I do.
