Topic Dog Boards / General / Micro Chipping

I've been looking into microchipping and was wondering what is considered to be the best one to do?

The vets are offering Pet ID which links to the Petlog database. While my Pet insurance is recommending Petback linked to the missing Pets Bureau.

What is the general consensus?

Jumping on the back of this post....is there any reason why you can't register your dog with both?  Any one out there know???  Just curious.

I've not heard of the Missing Pets Bureau before but PetLog is linked to the Kennel Club I think.

Thats fairly conclusive then. Petlog it is.

Although my brother tried to tell me i shouldn't have him chipped at all. Someone has been telling him that if the dog gets stolen they'll injure him by cutting the chip out of him. I do wonder about him sometimes!

There is more chance of him getting lost cos he's dug his way out of the garden, rather than being stolen- which is highly unlikely as he's too big for show, and has collie eye- so can't be used to breed.

petlog is the best, we use them. if you are charged any more than £10 you are being ripped off, the chips only cost about £5, less for rescue centres. :-)

hiya,
i work for Dogs Trust (NCDL) and we always microchip every dog that leaves. Personaly i think its better then ear tatoos. All my dogs are microchiped. Every dog that comes in gets scanned, if the dog is chipped the owners are instantly contacted. Its a good thing to do because even if your dog has a collar it can be lost or taken off by someone. Hope thats some help for you.

Missing pets bureau, you dont use More Than insurance do you? its just i noticed their insurance comes with 12 months free access to that (or something like that) so i assume they would recommend that one?
