Topic Dog Boards / Health / Fit border suddenly Ill and dies

Hi...my aunts beloved border collie, Taffy, has suddenly become very poorly and died. He was 9 years old and very fit and healthy and fully vaccinated.
The vet is baffled but thinks it may have had something to do with kidneys/liver.
On thursday last week he just decided to lie down and didnt get up again.
Has anyone any ideas?
I know its a long shot....

Was there a post mortem carried out? this will have showed the problem up in all probability.
Dawn.

My GSD did very similar at the same age, turned out he'd got a spleenic cancer which had ruptured when he lay down and he'd bleed to death by the time I got him to the vets, he'd made a noise when he'd got down but that wasn't unusual with his hips it was a terrible shock and I have to admit I've never had a GSD since.

They decided not to have a post-mortem because it was too expensive and it obviously cant help him now.
On his first trip to the vets on friday they couldnt find anything immediately wrong with him. Its just one of those things I suppose.
He didnt appear to be in any pain at all.
