Hi i would like to start doing some entries for Missy but am getting very confused over the classifications and amount i need to pay for entries, i know it is probably very simple but my brain cannot seem to cope with all the info and it is just not sinking in :D . Missy is k.c reg bullmastiff and was born on 13/9/2003 and if my maths are right she would be 9 months on 22 may this year, the problem i am having is some of the shows ask if the dogs have CC and if not the entry is at a lesser cost but i went to do an entry on Fossa and it still charged the full amount for entry so am i misunderstanding what this means. Also alot of the shows have very early closing dates so what happens if you have a win before the show but after doing our entry, not saying we will but i am confused over what you are meant to do. I am also wondering for the some of the shows where Missy would only be eligable for 1 class, could i enter her in the puppy stakes and what is this all about as i see some have different ones. As i am writing this i am sure i have forgotten to ask more but i have now confused my-self asking and need another tea lol , please help most confused person :D :D Emma.
Hi Emma,
Answers to your questions(I hope :) )
The KC take the view on calendar months for ages, so your puppy would be 1 month old on the 13th Oct 03
etc, so her 9 months of age would be June 13th 2004. Alot of the champ show schedules will actually tell you
the date ranges of eligiblity for each age range class. (Welks schedule certainly did)
With regard to your show entries.
The higher entry fees are charged for breeds which can win a CC so on the entry form you can see
CC breeds in brackets. If the breed has no CC's on offer to win then it's the lower entry fee that you pay.
On the entry form they often have either No CC's or Non-CC breeds.
Most of the championship show schedules will actually have printed just below the breed name if they have
Kennel Club Challenge Certificate (CC's) on offer for that breed.
Most shows you count awards won upto a week (7 days) before closing date when entering in any class.
So basically you are safe to post your entry 6 days before entry close date as all awards that your dog wins
upto and including the 7th day before entries close you'll have counted and if he/she wins anything after
this date it's not counted until the next show you enter. (I hope this makes sense)
Yes you can enter in the puppy stakes if you wanted, however at some champ shows these can clash (be on at the same time)
with the breed class. So it just depends if your breed judge is a quick judge and gets your breed class done
before the stakes class etc. If you have a male it's not so much of a problem as the males are normally judged first in the morning
and the bitch classes follow on from the males if you are in the same ring, however if you have two breed rings you shouldn't
have a problem as all the puppy classes are judged before the stakes are normally on.
But do check if a time is stated in the catalogue.
Puppy stakes and Junior stakes at champ shows are normally split into dog and bitch classes. So just make sure you get the right
class.
Hope this helps :)

First thing I would suggest is that you read the schedule, now your pup is 9 months old on the 13 June 2004 and can enter Minor Puppy up to and including that date. But she will have to be under 9 months on the first day of the show not the day you are showing.
In the schedule under where it tells your the breed it says Kennel Club Challenge Certificate - dog or bitch - that breed has CC on offer. It is up to the society who is running the show whether or not they charge different entry for dogs with CC's and those without.
You count wins up to about 1 week before the closing date for the show, again the date will be in the schedule if you look.
Your puppy will be eligible to enter any of the breed classes but it is normal to only enter one or two and any stakes classes that are for her group.
If you take a schedule with you to ringcraft or to your breeder they will help you fill it in, but the best way is to take time to read the instructions within the schedule.
sorry went for a shower between starting to answer and finnishing so I may well have duplicated what some one else will have said by now. :)

Hi Corso Girl, i am booked in for the sb show and even managed to get that one wrong :-( , but lucky for me Mr Blunden rang me and we sorted it out over the phone. Thank-you for the above replys i am going to print them out as i cannot seem to take it all in (feeling dense at the mo), i am glad you have said about missy not being 9 months until the 13 june though as that would of been a big mistake to make. I will try to make sure i read all the rules before i enter and if i get stuck hopefully some champers will be around to help me :D Emma.

Hi Sam, this will be missy's first show so i am not quite sure what she will make of it lol. We had a judge come into our ringcraft group as they have show nights and she was place third so i was very pleased about that and we are going to a small fun show today just for the practice, i need to to try and learn to control my nerves. I will be worse though at the sb as she is my first show dog and for all i know has all the wrong confirmation. I know that sounds daft but for those who know exactly what they are looking for, who have been in the breed for few years it is not so bad, i have read every book going but i am still unsure. I went to crufts to see if i could pick up some pointers but missy looked so different to the dogs there i am still none the wiser lol, i think this is because she is still only just 6 months and the dogs there were older and as we all know they change so quickly. Her kc name is Jaddore Hug Me Luv Me so please keep a look out for us we are in minor puppy bitch, puppy bitch and best brindle and i shall look forward to meeting everyone there :D Emma.

Emma, I will be at the SBS in April, if you want bring along some of the schedules and i will help you go through them and explain what some of the things mean. Should be a good show lots of us going to be there...who's bringing the bubbly :) :)
Karen.
hi emma,
Try not to worry too much about the show you will have a lovely time.
It is difficult at the beginning being so new,ive been showing for about 6 months now and im only just getting comfortable myself!
Is your husband/partner or even a friend coming along too, that helped me alot i was sooooooo nervous having that support does wonders!!!
It also helps if you meet friendly people, some people are great, others(i feel anyway)can be abit offish with newcomers but dont let that worry you, there are plenty of friendly, chatty bully owners out there!!!
I must say your missys KC name is lovely, how cute, mine have boring names!!!i think its the sweetest name ive ever heard of,ahhhhh.
Also one last thing to,dont worry if you dont win or come anywhere(although i hope you do really well)she is still so young, zena our eldest bitch(she has just turned 1)very rarely got placed as a baby, which quite upset me(boo hoo!!!)as i thought she was sooooooo beautiful. But now 6 months on,taking in all the show dogs i have seen i do realise she looked like a great dane as a pup(all legs no body!!!)but now she is maturing alittle she is filling and bulking out and turning into a great looking dog(who gets placed quite often).Who knows how well she will do once she has matured?but one thing i have realised 1st and foremost, she is my baby and my pride and joy!
Storm on the other hand is 7 months now and has won all of her 3 shows, they all develop so differently so dont worry,
Look forward to seeing you all at the show,
samantha

Hi Karen and Sam, thank-you so much for yourwords of advice they really mean alot to me. I have just done a small local fun show and missy was placed third in the puppy class out of 15 and third in best large breed so i was chuffed to bits with her. I thought it best to take her along as she had never been to a show and i wanted to see how she would be with so many other dogs around her, but as usual she was very good and did not show any nerves unlike her mum :D . My husband and my friend are coming along to give me some moral support although my oh will probably just go on about all the males there and how good they look lol, oops just realised what i've put, i do mean the dogs :D :D . I shall bring some of the schedules with me karen if that is ok, prehaps you could check that i have done them right for me. I am defiantly looking forward to going now and meeting some of the many people i have admired on champs for so long, look forward to seeing you all Emma.
