I have a dog who is now 5 months old and when we are out walking and meet other dogs he gets so over excited he appears to have small seizures.  I have spoken to the vets about this and he says we have to make sure he grows out of this otherwise he has a high chance of developing epilepsy as a mature dog.  Has anyone got any previous experience of this behaviour and can anyone recommend how we can help him overcome this?

thanks

Hi guest, sorry to hear about your dog, epilepsy is not that unusual in dogs and is one of the things that people look into when they are thinking of breeding dogs, one of the problems is that it is difficult to diagnose unless the dog actually fits whilst being examined.

So first thing to do is ask the breeder who may or may not be able to let you know if this has happened in their breeding lines before, even if it has not they will need to know as they will have to look back at the lines of the parent dogs to see, if possible, where this problem came from. Your pup is I believe rather young to have developed epilepsy so it could be something else, take it your vet checked for infections.
