i was wondering, i think i have it right in my head about the right time ti mate you bitch when shes in season, but i'd just like it verified, i read in a book that it was when the colour changed to red, is this true? i'd really like to get it right! so any help would be most appreciated, i know i ask a lot of questions but i think its very important to know know your stuff! thankyou!:-)

No it is more likely when it turns to straw, if you are not experienced the best and only way is to have blood test.

My bitch stood between day 10-13 and her blood was still pretty red, she also bled for 21 days very normal for her. It does depend on your bitch and she will know when she is ready. I was worried cause reading all my books I was told a straw color too and had her checked out but all was fine. All her heats were the same, even her 3rd heat that I bred her on.

Mine bleed all the way through their season.  Luckily my stud dogs have been close by so I've been able to go on a number of occasions.  The first time I mated Carina I did it on her 18th day, she'd have no go before then, but this time I mated her on her 12th and 13th days.

She's still bright red and will be for at least another 10 -15 days.

Bitches often dont have the colour change a better indication is her willingness to except the dog and the dogs interest in her.
also the Vulva becomes softer when ready. :)
