I have a really lovely pup which I got 2 1/2 weeks ago He is 15 weeks now
I started toilet training stright away ( I do not use paper)
Take him out every 45mins to an hour into the garden, and if hes just woke up,had a feed or a play. then really praise him when he does it, but he is showing no signs of picking it up
He is crated at night in our room and goes all night with out any mess in the crate, so he can hold it
However in the day even though I am taking him out every 45mins to an hour.
I will catch him doing it in the house which is hard as he stands up and does wees and does not do it in the same spot its all over the place so I am allways having to keep a closed eye on him
when he does it in the house, I pick him up , he stops, I take him out side and stay there till he does it
This is not my first dogs I have had 7 dogs over the years All have trained easy, with the same house training rules I am using with him. I know all dogs are different and I cannot compare them. I have always had girls before do boys take longer or am I doing something wrong

Hi,
I have found that boys do indeed take longer than girls (though maybe that's because I've never had boys singly), but I'm not surprised he can last all night but need to go frequently during the day. I'm just the same, and I would hazard a guess that you are too ... ;)

I'm having the exact same trouble as you and mines a boy yet my bitch was so easy it was a breeze!
I've had exactly the same problem with one of my Staff boys. He's now 7mths old and has only just started to be clean in the house. His litter brother on the other hand was a gem and caught on remarkably quickly. Their mother was also really easy to train. Sometimes, it just happens that way!
Keep up with the regime you have, don't despair, it will eventually click. I still don't trust one of the pups and do take him out frequently and still go through the huge amounts of praise when he performs outside to continue to reinforce the good behaviour but haven't had an accident in the house for over 2 weeks now - hurray!! :-)
Keep at it, you'll get there eventually...

Two of my lot were pups last year, Milly (pointer) came to us in May and Pippa (springer) came to us in August. Milly was a NIGHTMARE to house train. I honestly thought we would not get through to her. We would let her out every half hour and she would still come back inside and wee behind the sofa. She wasn't told off or anything when she weed. I just put her in another room, cleaned it up and brought her back. On the other hand, Pippa was a breeze. She had hardly any accidents inside at all and the ones she did, it was my fault. She was asking to go out for a wee after a week whereas Milly was 6 months old. Milly is finally housetrained but it was a frustrating time for us. It's just a case of keep letting them out every hour and after dinner, waking up etc. They will get the hang of it.
btw, my gwp male was housetrained in a week.
Something which may help is odorkill. It completely kills the wee smell. That may help if he is smelling the wee as it encourages them to do it in the same place. It's about £8 plus p&p for a litre bottle but you dilute it and it lasts us ages. If you are interested in it, do a search for odorkill and it should come up with the company who make it - can't remember exactly who it is.

Try leashing him to you this way where ever you go so does he. I found this way worked wonders when house training mine. When I was unable to watch him in the kennel he went. I even kept him leashed to me when we went outside for a pee/poo, once he did his business I would allow about 15 minutes or so off lead in the house when I was able to give my full attention to him then back on leash. Of course a lot of praise/treats when he went and a reward of not being leashed for free time.

Thank you for your replies it has helped as I was beginning to think it was something I was doing wrong
He also has done his number 2 in the house as I stood in it last night
and I had no shoes on at the time. I was hopping about trying to wipe it off He just looked at me as if to say whats up with you
He is such a very laid back little man so basic training with him is more challenging as he just walks over slowly or looks at me with his little look ( but its sooo nice when clicks) He is very differnt from my girls who were always more excitable wanting to please so learnt so quickly.
I am injoying him very much and love him dearly
It took me 3mths. to housetrain my last girl,i used the same tecniques as you,i honestly thought she would never get it,then one day she went outside by herself and has never done it indoors since, something in their little heads must just click.
One thing i couldnt do without is the doggy door,i'm sure it would have taken twice as long if she didnt have free run to go outside on her own as you cant always be there or notice when they want out!
good luck,it wont last forever,it's only been 2 weeks, you've got another couple months to go if he's anything like mine ;)
