My 11 week old lab trys to eat snails out of the garden every time we take him into the garden. I was just wondering if anybody elses dogs does this.?  :)

Our dogs eat snails too, unfortantly seens snails eat slug pellets then if a dog eats a few snail that have eaten slug pellet or similar then this can make the dogs ill.

My friend had a litter of pups some of them ate snails. When they were about 7 months one of the two puppies she kept was taken ill. The vet told her that she should discourage the pup from eating snails as they carry some bug or parasite, (I can't remember which it was), which was making the pup ill.

That's right, snails are bad for dogs to eat.  I think they carry some kind of bug which is very dangerous to dogs.

Slugs and Snails give your dogs Lungworms which can if not treated lead to pnuemonia as one of my puppy buyers found out.  If they eat them you need to worm with panacur as it is the only product that keeps the infestation under control, they cause the dogs to cough because of the excess mucus produced so that they expel the eggs onto the ground.

lily used to eat slugs, which worried me after i was told they were unsafe for dogs, but luckily she has now (at the grand age of 8 months) grown out of it - one of the VERY few things she's stopped doing :D

Our 6 month old lab Alfie also had a bit of a thing about snails.  He mainly liked to push them around with his nose and then pounce on them!! Then one day he decided to progress to eating it.  Luckily it must have tasted disgusting as he has never gone near another one!
