if crufts were to change its venue from the nec where would be the best place to hold it.
hubby has just said the millenium dome as it is doing nothing else.
what about the cardiff stadium the roof can be closed.

Excel Exhibition Centre in Docklands, London - was just thinking this myself the other day - there is parking there, it's easy to get to by public transport .... and it would only be 30 mins away for us :D

Hi Gillian I agree we have to travel miles to get to most of the champ shows one of our nearest ie THE GREAT NORTHERN CLASSIC should now be the great southern classic seeing as they changed the venue

I don't live in london i live in the north east.
Carol

Not stressed about it Carol just having abit of fun with the ones who suggested LONDON hence the ;) :D Gillian

I thought about Excel when I was there last week. It certainly has large halls and great facilities, but I doubt it could handle the parking given the fiasco at the NEC for Crufts.
Now the dome could handle the parking, there is plenty of parking space there. I have often thought it would make a great indoor dog show venue, rather then go to waste.
Not far from me either :D

The KC plan to encourage more european dogs as time goes on. The Dome and Excel would be ideal venues to encourage visitors from Europe. Easy port access, direct road and rail links, ample public transport and an airport to boot.

Just like the NEC then Admin ;) (apart from the port of course).

million domb would be excellent, if it had parking!!!!
Don't really want it anywhere in london as it would be a pig to get to, more so then the NEC not to mention having to pay to get into london!!!
London personally is a really bad idea, although it isn't that far from us, then niethers NEC!

for those of us that live in the north east what about the town moor would have to make crufts the middle of the summer or we would get bogged down.
or the what used to be called the telewest arena, not sure how big it is inside though.
the ideal place would be a non used aircraft hanger
just thought why not the newark showground that is about in the middle of the country isn't it, has plenty of space in the barns has plenty of parking,or do we want somewhere really posh.
thought of newark as the trade stands could be one part and the dogs in the other parts.

Thing is an inside venue is always best! If its outside then think of the rain! We do get rain in every month of the year so if its going to happen it will happen on the days of crufts!

"for those of us that live in the north east what about the town moor would have to make crufts the middle of the summer or we would get bogged down."
Ever been to the Hoppings (held Midsummer) on a rainy week? the Town Moor can bog down very well in July! And unfortunatley Telewest is no way big enough, although it would be great to have a show in the area.
I thought about Crufts last time I was at Excell, but the parking would be a nightmare, especially the multistorey aspect - remember the problems at Manchester with the car park? And the catering venues at Excell are even worse than NECs :( Perhaps the traffice will be not so bad next year iwth the show not clashing with the Homebuild show (unless NEC book someting else in instead)?

I'm close to Birmingham too....I really couldnt face a trip to London, and I can't envisage why the traffic would be better. On most occasions the parking at the NEC is brilliant. I do think it would be best to run ONLY Crufts though, and not try to run any simultaneous shows.

At least NEC is fairly central for most exhibitors. The organisers just need to stop being greedy and only have Crufts on for those 4 days and no other exhibitions then there shouldn't be a problem with parking or any thing else as long as no coaches break down on the nearby motorways and the traffic lights nearby don't fail.
Having it a bit further on it to the year would be nicer though, better weather and lighter evenings.

I think the NEC is in an ideal place for most of us - at least it is centrally placed!!!
A tip for people coming up the M1 from the south - dont go up as far as the M6 - come off at Junction 17, onto the M45-A45 - it actually brings you up and over the M6 - and straight into the NEC car parking!!!
(Now I've done it - everyone rom down south will use our way next year - and I'll get moaned at!!!)
Margot
We also use the A45, whilst watching others going the usual run, and sail straight into the West Car park with no problems or holdups and sail straight out again at 5-6pm. We got there at 9am and the West Car park was virtually empty!! I can't stand driving around B-ham but a move to London would be awful.

I have my own secret route to the NEC that I guard jealously! ;)

I have my own secret route to the NEC as well and it only takes 40 minutes. The downside is that the route is 30,000 feet upwards :D Great journey though and if you book far enough ahead you can get a return flight from Edinburgh to Birmingham for about £30. Perfect.

LOL @ Scottish Parliament! Knew it had to be good for something :D
