My friend has 3 staffordshire bull terriers. She has the father, mother and one of the daughters from their litter.
Recently the male dog has been starting fights with the mother. He is about 2 years old and has never really done anything like this before. He has not been spayed, but is being done as soon as possible. Is there anything that she can do to stop him from starting these fights until he is spayed other than keeping them apart, and in case it does not carm him down.

Are you sure it's the male? Usually males don't touch females although females have no inhibitions about having a go at the male. If it really is the male starting it then I would doubt Castration will help much. That would normally help reduce the sex drive which could help a male/male problem but would not help in a male/female confrontation.

Iagree with John a staffie is not going to stop fighting if castrated . I think you will find that once they have started to fight it wont stop , your option now is to separate them . best wishes MARI

hi
sorry but i also agree if he has started fightting please dont leave them alone sound narsty but some done this at our staff club and came home to a dead dog,i had to rehome one of my staffs as she got in her head she didnt like zara my older staff and in the end they couldent even look at each other without startting ,so she had to go as a only dog if the male is 2 his just reach full adulthood and the hormones have now kicked in maybe now his decided to stand his grown and take the place of top dog, staff are not a breed to be left to sort thinks out for themselfs please tell yopur freind to think very long and hard about there next step as i wouldent like to see any injurys or worse.

Separate them! Once dogs really start to fight then they can do a lot of damage - is the bitch or her daughter coming into season? One of my girls gets very short with my male around this time - he is barely allowed to look at her and she starts. A few days later she is the biggest flirt around though.

I would make sure that there are only one or two dogs in one place at all times as if a fight really gets going and all three are involved there will be a lot of damage.

Good luck

When we had terriers, if there was a neutered male anywhere, the bitches would pick a fight with him as if they thought he was queer (sorry if this offends anyone, but it's relevent).

I don't know why it happens, but it does.

Afraid you'll have to separate them.
