I picked up one of the leaflets about the new Accredited Breeder Scheme at Crufts, and having read it decided to apply.  the leaflet says "download an application form from the Kennel club website" , I went to the website, went into forms section, nothing, did a site search, only came up with the press release.   So I mailed the info. dept, and got a reply this morining, guess what - the forms are not on the site yet!  they are posting one out to me.  Wouldnt you think they could get their act in enough order to have the website updated before making the big launch of the initiative!

Gwen I think Our Dogs did a similar thing also.  There thread made it sound you could apply through them.

Did anyone go and see about it at Crufts? I never had time but never seen anything jump out when I passed it.

I didnt see anything but the leaflets and the poster on the KC stand, but on one of the Crufts threads I think someone said they went to the seminar - perhaps they will catch this thread and give us some info?

Good Idea Gwen !!! Anyone Know ??

I have not formed an opinion yet of it but if it helps in anyway combat undersirable breeding I am all for it.

Just pray it anit another thing PF can access and use to market even more puppies.

Pam ( who will remain positive and pray it is successful)

Hi I had a quick look at a sample foulder that the KC gave out at the seminar at Crufts but must admit it was only a quick look biggest thing that is different from the breeding practices of a good breeder is that all breeding stock has to be DNA tested. Gillian

I like the permenant ID thing, all pups must go with Microchip/tattoo/DNA test for 1st year and after that must all be DNA identified.  Should help stamp out a lot of the dodgy pedigrees, it checks are made to ascertain the pup actually belongs to the registered parents - nothing in the literature mentions this as yet.

I've got the leaflet & the application form which I picked up at Crufts - there was someone on the stand willing to explain all the ins & outs (well when I was there anyway :-)) On the application form it does say that DNA profiling for all breeding stock will be compulsory for participants in the scheme after the scheme has been in operation for 1 year. As I understand it, breeders will be able to send for a profiling kit from the AHT & take samples from their dogs themselves for processing by the AHT. I'm wondering whether this couldn't be open to abuse? I expected the breeder's vet to have to take the samples for some reason. I think the scheme has promise but the launch was maybe rushed into the public spotlight before they have ironed out all the details (such as putting information & forms on the KC website!)

I know you can get the kits from the AHT just now. As I got a couple last year. I had to get my vet to do the scraping though and he had to sign it according beleiving the dog that he took the scraping from was indeed the dog (I know we could call them all Archie:-)

It is a start though.

I many be wrong but I am not sure if it is just £10 for the AHT DNA profile , they had a minimum of £50 fee but not sure if that is just for parentage.  So it didn't matter if you sent one sample in or 5 it was still £50. Will need to go look at their site. Think I should have done that first LOL
