Hi,
I was going to "block pave or deck" the back garden but have run out of energy and paitence I have left a smallish area of lawn, well Sal being a bitch is slowly ruining my "lawn" I say the word "lawn" tongue in cheek :)
She used to wee on the paving but for some reason has decided the grass is just the thing. Well how do I get rid of the brown patches - re-seed? what?
I do try to get out there with a bucket of water or the hosepipe when she wees to dilute it but there has to be other solutions?
HELP :)

Karen,
I had a bitch who would only wee on the lawn and I tried everything. the only way i found was to grow little patches of grass. I used Vitalite pots. When it went brown, you dig round the pot, lift up the brown and plop the new bit in. I'm aware that makes me sound a bit sad but it's the ONLY way. Mind, when she went to the kennel in the sky I left the brown patches and the next year they came greener than the rest of the lawn.
Off to cut the hedge with nail scissors :)

That is a good idea - I wonder if I could train her to wee only on the grass in the pots. Then I wouldn't have a ruined lawn would I? ;)

Karen,
The grass does grow back - lusher than the grass that did not get a dose of wee.
If you see your bitch wee and you immediately soak it with water it will not leave a brown spot. Otherwise, I am afraid the only cure is to keep her off the grass.

has anyone tried those greenum tablets (herbal) that are supposed to take the acid out of the bitches wee to prevent this???????
I'm just about to have 150ft of lawn laid and am very keen to avoid this problem

I've also heard that adding tomato juice to your dog's food is supposed to cut down on the acid. Does anyone know if there is any truth behind that?

Well tried tomato juice, tin tomatoes, buckets of water but the brown patches keep on coming. Not so keen on using the tablets as Penny is a Dalmatian and they can have problems with bladder stones etc.
Looking into artificial grass at the moment.

Artificial grass isn't an option as I rent the place that I live in and need to come up with some way to fix the grass, or my landloards might lose it.

That would be a bit difficult if your "doggy day care" plans come to fruition, wouldn't it? :) :) :)

I've blocked my lawn off with a low fence, so my dogs only go on the patio! it's a lot easier to clean up and hose!

Me too! Dylan wrecked the garden, so we've had it all re-turfed, and had a special dog patio bit made, which is fenced off from the rest of the garden. Its so easy to keep clean :)

We got rid of all our grass a few years ago. Apart from the brown/yellow patches, in the winter they always trailed mud into the house. We now have the whole back yard concreted. It's so much easier, and they do learn to pee on the concrete!!
