This year I made my first trip to Cruft's for 8 years, I was lucky enough to see some lovely dogs in the ring, some I noticed were in some way related to my old boy Jet who sadly died 9 years ago (I have not been able to go and watch Flatties since :-( )

I brought my boy from a working bitch, and at the time I was offered plenty of advice from Mrs Jean Griffiths (Riversflight) at the time I seem to remember she had quite a few dogs, many of whom I fell in love with!

Could anyone give me a list of her dogs past and present, champions inc, just for my old memories sake, it will be nice to be able to go back in time so to speak!

Thank you to whoever can answer, it really will be much appreicated,

Ann

You have given me a very worrying day Guest, trying to think of the dog I should have known but could not remember! "Tom Thumb of Riversflight" Possibly around the right age to be in the pedigree of your dog?

Best wishes, John

Tom Thumb was actually just Tom Thumb.  He was not allowed to have the Riversflight affix added to his name because he had won a stud book number by the time Jean got round to it.

He was a super dog - wonderful temperament, very sound and a good worker.  Of all Jean's dogs he was probably my favourite.

I would never argue Flatcoats with you Becky, you have been around them for so many years longer than me :) I remember seeing him for the first time at the Flatcoat Ch Show at Malvern many years ago and would have sworn that he was in the catalogue as such but as I say, it was a long time ago now and an old man like me is allowed a failing memory. :)

Best wishes, John

Well, you could be right John.  What happened was that Jean bought Tom in, did very well with him, applied to the KC to have the Riversflight affix added to his name without realising that if he had a Stud Book Number you could not change the name thereafter (unless you do it in 28 days of getting it).  so there were a few shows where he was entered with the affix but as it was rejected he went back to being Tom Thumb.

<<Well, you could be right John>>

Don't say that Becky! People tell me that when a person gets to my age they MUST be wrong. Seems Mr Blair passed a law about it! ;)

Hi,
I take it you did not get a Crufts catalogue, as if you had you would have been able to meet Jean as she was there with her dog this year. Jean is still around. Perhaps you might like to come to the Flatcoated Retriever Society breed championship show on the 4th of April. It is to be held at The Connexion Ryton on Dunsmore. Jean will I am sure be there.

Reading this post brings tears to my eyes we had Riversfilght Dee off jean many moons ago. I will always remember her as she was just a big fat hairy puppy when we brought her home. So was so chunky i could harly pick her up (1 was 12/13 at the time) she had a blue knitted teady and she took it everywhere with her. Ive even popped over to my mums to get the photo album which she was in.I will always think the utmost of jean for ltting us have such a lovely girl. Gwen Hasweth staffs
